*Jacob POV*
I didn't realize I was barely moving until I heard that raspy voice again.
"Jacob..."
He WAS crying... After only moments, we managed to get my form back onto the bridge. Those moments felt like eternity.
We sat in silence for minutes that loomed in front of us like a freight train and then, in a cracky and unstable voice, I choked out the one thing that's been on my mind since the moment he grabbed my arm.
"Why would you stop me? Our kinds aren't exactly friends and we've only talked once or twice." He just shook his head as if trying to rid a thought from his brain. He put his hand on top of mine. We'd briefly touched, but his icy skin was still a shock to me. He didn't answer, instead he lurched forward. Instinctively, I was frightened. But his mouth didn't go for my neck.
His lips were on mine. I didn't know how to react. Part of me wanted to shove him away and run. The other part made me melt into it and kiss back.
When he pulled away, my heart hurt. I didn't want the moment to end. He looked embarrassed and apologized. "I'm sorry, Jacob. I just thought you felt the same way."
"I- I do..", his head snapped back up to look at me and he was surprised, to say the least. " But.. I'm a vampire and you're a werewolf!", he used his hands to gesture. "Does that matter anymore? The rules were already broken the moment you stepped on our land and I didn't kill you."
