I was hurriedly getting ready for school. I had overslept, and was most certainly going to be late. And the sad thing? This was the second time in two days.
As I was going out the door, my phone rang. I had never bothered to change the ringtone, so it was still the basic one. The caller ID said that Hayami was calling me.
Hayami's my best friend. We had known eachother since primary school (Elementary school for those that don't know) and had grown close due to our similar personalities. Hayami and I were both very quiet, opting to let others do the talking. Hayami has orange hair that she keeps in loose pigtails and large teal eyes that, despite their size, convey an aura of stoicness.
Anyway, I answered my phone. She was the first to speak.
"Chiba! Are you okay? You're late again."
A smile tugged at my lips as I answered.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just overslept again."
"Oh, okay. I'll tell Koro-Sensei."
She hung up as I put my phone back into my pocket and began to run My black hair that covers both my eyes started flapping against my face, making it hard to see where I was going.
Since I wasn't near the school building, I just pushed it out of my face, revealing deep red eyes that I covered because people started freaking out when they saw them. My father was convinced that I was a cursed child after my mother died in childbirth, and my deep red eyes only embellished the fact. A few years later, and he was married to another woman, my stepmom, and she's convinced that I'm cursed as well. What convinced her? When I was five, and in the same room as one of their firstborn, the china that was perfectly balanced on top of the cabinet all fell onto their firstborn's head, killing her. After that, I was forbidden from interacting or even being near their other children.
And yet, her eldest will sneak into my room at night and talk to me. Her name was Akari, and she had pitch-black hair cut shoulder-length. Her eyes were a golden color, like my stepmom's.
Anyways, as I neared the school building, I slowed down, and brushed my hair back into my eyes.
But something wasn't right. There was police tape around the bushes in front of the building. As I approached the school, a policeman stopped me.
She had a stern look to her face as she addressed me.
"Are you a student at this school?"
I was more than a little nervous, but I answered anyway.
"Yeah."
"Did you know Taka Mitsuyo?"
That was the girl that was flirting with me yesterday. I had brushed her off.
"Yeah."
"Do you know why someone would want to kill her?"
I froze. She was dead?
"No."
"Did you kill her?"
I don't kill for no reason. Koro-Sensei taught me that.
"No."
"Alright. You may go into the school building."
As I entered, I looked at my watch and winced. It was already 8:20, meaning I had missed most of first period.
I sighed. First, I had to visit the principal.
I knocked on his door. Almost immediately, he told me to come in.
And you know how being late for school is. They ask you why, give you some tardy slip or whatever, and send you on your way.
A few minutes later, when I entered the classroom, Koro-Sensei looked up from his biology lesson to greet me.
"Ah, Chiba. I see you could make it to 'How to kill a person while only stabbing them once'."
I just nodded as I took my seat. Unfortunately, I sat right in front of Karma, which meant that he immediately started asking me stuff.
"Yo Chiba, did you see Mitsuyo?"
I only nodded
"I think there's a Yandere in this school. Mitsuyo isn't the first girl to die this year. Of course, you were out when the other ones died, but still."
I nodded, not really paying any attention to Karma. I was more focused on Koro-Sensei's lesson because I wasn't skilled with knives.
Now, you may be wondering why high school students were being taught how to use knives. And that would be an excellent question. We were being taught this because we were being taught to be assassins. Our teacher was known in the assassin world as the Reaper, the best assassin in the world.
And for some reason, he wanted to teach high school students how to be assassins.
The rest of the morning went by in a blur, and nothing interesting happened.
It was at lunch when it fully sank in what Karma had said.
Karma's usually right, so I should believe him.
Which means...
There's a Yandere at my school.
