~Chapter 1~
I look in the mirror, admiring my gorgeous, satin gold dress. I smile approvingly and run my hands along the fabric.
"Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night." A deep, husky voice says from behind me. I turn, the man reaching for my hand. My hand slips into his and we walk out of the room, down the many white marble stairs, my shoes clicking as they make contact with the stone. I glance at the man from the corner of my eye, admiring his amazing physique and he's devilishly handsome face. His perfect jaw, his flawless hair, his startlingly blue eyes. My dirty caramel hair, chubby cheeks and dull hazel eyes are nothing in comparison to him. We enter the ball room, moving straight to the centre of the room to dance. The room is grand, a gigantic glass chandelier above our heads, the white walls lined with large windows overlooking acres of garden and land. I feel like I am in a fairytale. Other couples dance around us their dancing impeccable.
"May I have this dance?" He says, raising one eyebrow seductively.
When I smile sheepishly and nod he moves closer, putting one hand on mine and his other on the small of my back. I rest my hand on his broad shoulder, briefly feeling the fabric of his perfect fitting tuxedo. The other dancers don't compare to the two of us, who seem to be the only ones truly present in that moment. We sway with the music in perfect sync, gazing into each other's eyes with such admiration.
"What's your name?"
"William," He speaks softly, making me melt where I stand.
"and I already know yours, Haven." He tucks a loose wisp of hair behind my ear, his hand lingering on my cheek. We continue to dance, William daring me to look down from his burning gaze. He leans inwards, and I stand up taller to reach closer, ready to meet his lips...
"Haven!" I jolt awake, groaning as my head hits my brother's.
"Ow!" Charlie rubs his forehead as he scowls at me. I throw my pillow at him, hitting him square in the face.
"You're so annoying; I was having the best dream ever!" I pull myself out of bed, trudging to the bathroom and locking the door before my brother can get in.
"Fine then Haven, I guess I'll just have to leave without you." I can envision his smirk on the other side of the door. Charlie's my older brother, who was born purely for the intention of ruining my life.
"Whatever. Leave me alone, I'll get a ride with Maesy." I get in the shower, sitting down straight after I turn on the taps. After almost falling back asleep and eventually washing my hair, I get out. After rushing to get dressed, I grab my bag and chow down a protein bar before running out the door. I jog around the corner to Maesy's house, catching her just before she leaves in her car.
"Maesy! Can I...can I have a ride?" I say in between pants.
"Sure. We wouldn't want you to miss out on your first day of your senior year." Maesy smirks and we both get in the small green bumblebee.
Maesy's been my best friend since we first met in the city library in grade 3, both searching for the same book. We ended up reading it together that day since there was only one copy. She's been through hell and back with me and we're basically joined at the hip.
