Ashley's POV:
I can't believe Father! I knew he hated us and he was thinking of more creative punishments but I didn't think he'd go this far. Splitting Megan and me up was the old man's form of entertainment. If Hunter, our brother, hadn't milked his broken nose then this wouldn't be happening. Megan and I weren't going to see each other until we graduated!
"That will be all. You may leave." His voice had the tone of finality that no one could argue against. I left the study in a daze. I felt angry, betrayed, nervous but most of all I felt like my other half was ripped from me. As we turned the corner I walked into something, more like someone.
"You weren't gone long, I figured father would be punishing you as he normally does. What happened, mangaged to squirm your way out of this one did you?" It was Hunter. Of course it was. He normally waits around the corner to see us coming out limping with bruises over us but I couldn't let him see us upset,
"No Hunter," my voice quivered a little so Em carried on,
"You seem to have got your life long wish. Instead of having to put up with us for the rest of our childhood, we will all be split up. You are staying her with mother and father, Ashley is spending her time a boarding school and I will be leaving to go to another boarding school. We are forbidden to return to this house until we learn our lesson or we graduate." Hunter's face turned from smugness to anger to sadness, changing a million times until his mask flew back up.
"But that's impossible. Father knows one of you two has an anger that only the other can help to dissolve. I hoped you would be shipped away, but never alone. I thought you would be together, until the very end. This is all my fault. I'm so very sorry." He seemed sincere but it was too late. We were being separated and it was all his fault,
"I don't care if you are apologising until the very end of our lives. You made this happen. You are the reason we won't ever be happy. You are at fault." I don't really mean these words but they have to be said turning to Megan I spoke gently, "Come on now Megan because of our dear brother we must pack our little amount of possesions."
With that we turned and left our older brother in the corridor and sped up to our rooms.
"Ash, that wasn't very nice. We should have at least tried to be on speaking terms with him."
"No, Em he might be our brother but he has made us eternally miserable. At least we can still write, twice a week, if you don't I will personally walk to wherever your school is and see that you aren't dead." The last of these words caused Em to send a playful glare my way,
"Don't you dare. If you do I will say that we are just identical strangers like you used to when you were embarassed of me."
"Yes I suppose that would be rather careless of me, I might just catch a cold or pneumonia. Then what good will I be to you?" As I finished my sentence we had reached the top of the spiral staircase that led directly to our room.
At the top there was an iron railing so that no one would tumble out of bed and fall down the stairs. The stairs were positioned in the middle of the room. It was a small room with twin beds separated by a wooden desk. The only window in the room stood between both beds and was only big enough for the sun to only just light the room up. (A/N The picture above is what I imagine the room to look like) At the end of the room facing both beds was a small wardrobe with only six identical pairs of clothes. Three pairs of black skirts for Em and three for me. Three white blouses for Em and three for me. Three pairs of white stockings for Em and three for me. One pair of black smart shoes for Em and one for me. The only difference between our sides of the wardrobe was our new school uniforms.
Em's uniform was a green blazer, green checkered skirt and a white rever collar shirt (A rever collar shirt is just a fancy way of saying women shirt. It's basically just a shirt with a different collar because you don't need a tie).
My uniform was a navy blue blazer with a blue checkered skirt, a blue shirt and a navy blue tie, which can only mean one thing in England. I was going to a school with boys and Em wasn't. Lucky me! Note the sarcasm there.
"Ash, doesn't this look like Mother's old uniform?" Megan questioned, breaking the comfortable silence the room was in before.
"Hmm? Oh yeah, I suppose it does. I wonder why though?" I answered.
"Maybe it's because Megan is going to my old school." Mother said, making me jump.
"I wish I could go. I'm going to have to be stuck with boys for the rest of my life!" (A/n Sorry don't want to be rude but that is what most people I knew were like at 13. No disrespect to anyone)
"I do have some good news that you two must promise to keep to yourself" Mother carried on, ignoring my words, as usual.
