Dearest,
I have very great news! My speech was put into the newspaper: Hello, America. And I have been getting many letters from different people, thanking me that I am against slavery and that I'm a true patriot.
Plus, Abigail Adams sent a letter to me! I do not know where these people are getting my home address, but that is okay—I am making a change in the world! Mother and Father should be proud, but they cannot see past the color of their skin.
Johnny, how I wish for you to write back. With Mother and Father shunning me, plus getting so much attention from the press, I have been feeling rather stressed. When you write back, I feel joyful, blissful and happy. Please write back so I may feel that way again.
This morning, Mother walked into my room while I was writing a letter. She had shook her head and said, "Girls writing letters. A shame," and then, "and my own daughter!" Then she had slammed the door and walked away.
I am very melancholy.
Love,
Abigail.
