Matias POV

It'd had been an ordinary, boring-ass day. Paperwork, sitting at the desk in an uncomfortable chair. It had been maybe mid-day when something started to feel off. Just this nagging in the back of my head. My wolf had started to go on edge, pacing in my mind. Then these kids had come to my office and reported a rogue being very close to the borders. I could faintly smell the rogue on their clothes. But it wasn't the normal faded pack and rusty nails smell. It was sweet. And my wolf stood at attention when they walked into the room, sniffing as his tail slowly started to wag. They talked about how a rogue must have been camping out in a cave near the edges of our borders. They said it wasn't threatening, as it didn't come out or respond to them. I dismissed them with a thanks, sitting back down in that uncomfortable ass chair. I didn't look at the papers, I didn't even think about anything other than that smell. My mate was close. After so many years my mate was so close. I spent the rest of the day mostly pacing my office, thinking about how I could go out and find my mate.

Sitting at the dinner table with my Beta and Gamma pair, I was anxiously tapping my foot and poking my food around my plate. My Beta, Gavin, eyed me before setting his fork down and snapping in front of my face. I blinked and looked up at him in confusion.

"Dude, what's up with you?" He asked me, leaning back in his chair and cocking an eyebrow. My Gamma pair, Jacob and Hunter, hummed in agreement to the question. I set my fork down with a sigh, leaning forward to rest my head in my hands.

"These kids came into my office today with a rogue sighting just off out borders." The three tensed up at that information.

"But I could smell the rogue on them, and it wasn't normal rogue scent. It was sweet." I looked up at them as they processed what I said. Gavin's eyes went wide, Jacob and Hunter just sat silent.

"I..I think it might have been my mate." I whispered. Gavin stood abruptly and I looked up at him. He had the biggest smile on his face, my Gamma pair with matching goofy grins. I smiled a little as Gavin began to speak.

"Dude, that's awesome!" He exclaimed, Jacob and Hunter nodding in agreement. I sighed though as thoughts raced through my head.

"What if he's gone already though? What if he rejects me?" I asked, voice void of emotion. Gavin slapped my shoulder and I looked up at him in surprise.

"Matias, all due respect, but shut the fuck up. We don't know anything about him, and if he feels the pull of the mate bond he won't go very far. Once you get anywhere near your mate, the further away you go from them, the worse you start to feel." Gavin stated. My eyes widened at that.

"What if he's dead somewhere already?" I asked quietly.

"Matias! Goddess, you'd feel it." Jacob snapped, his beautiful voice low. Yea, he already had a mate and I was in no way shape or form attracted to him, but nobody could deny that Jacob was basically carved from the moon Goddess herself. He was tall, almost taller than me, with very dark brown hair, which cropped short to his head, and dark eyes. He was mostly muscle, and was very fast and strong. His wolf was black with brown spots here and there, but from a distance he looked mostly black. His mate, Hunter, was basically the opposite. He was normal sized, if not a bit smaller, for a male of his age, only around 6'. He had white blond hair that fell to his shoulders and icy blue eyes, all features that reflected on his wolf. His wolf was pure white with the same cold blue eyes. Hunter was a quiet man, and also seemed to know everything about everyone. He did most of my spy work, while Jacob did the muscles of things. Personality wise, Jacob was slightly more outgoing than Hunter, but they still worked together.

"Yea, he's right," Gavin added. "Here, tell you what, us three will go out in the morning and find the kid, how about that?" Gavin suggested. I gulped, before nodding, looking up into Gavin's dark eyes. Gavin was the same height as Jacob, with a lean build that he'd built from all the running he does. He was my fastest runner and always thinking on his feet, one of the many reasons he's my Beta. His hair was pitch black, along with his wolf's, and was also cropped short on the sides and slightly longer on the top.
