How do I get out. I don't know the way anymore. Around me everything got darker and darker.

The sun was setting and I was still in this damn forest. It wasn't the first time that I went in there, I was always in the forest when I wanted to run from reality at home. But never before I was lost. I used to know every stone and every branch, every path, but today I recognised nothing. It seemed like a totally different place tonight.

The shadows grew, as the sun slowly vanished behind the trees, leaving the stage for her friend the Moon. A couple that would never see each other, as the sun went when he came and comes when he goes.

I looked around desperately searching for something familiar, something that would lead me back home. Home, the place that would barely be any better than out here in the cold forest. It was just as cold there and I would be just as lonely.

I searched and searched until the strength in my legs began to fail me. I was tired but all there was around me was darkness and the labyrinth like paths of a forest that I used to know. Each sound made me more and more nervous. Here was a branch breaking there a bush rustling. Even if I was tired, I couldn't stop here, I don't know what's out here in this part of the forest.

I forced myself to walk on, my steps getting slower and slower. The chill of the night crept up my arms and legs, making me shiver slightly.

Everything looked the same. I could turn and turn not knowing where I had started. There was no beginning nor end. The more I turned the more blurry everything became. I felt like I was trapped. Everything looked so similar, every tree, every bush, even the stones looked the same, like I hadn't moved at all. As if I was glued to one and the same spot, not coming free.

I gave up, slumping down against one of the hundred trees that surrounded me. I tried everything to stay awake, but my eyes became heavier and heavier until -in the end- they fell shut. It was a dreamless and short sleep. It felt like no sleep at all. It was still the same day, the same night, the same place. I forced myself to wake up again. I couldn't stay here.

The moon was high up now, but his light couldn't make it through to me. Or could it?

Were my eyes fooling me? I saw light, a faint light in the distance. Did I find the way out after all? I didn't see it before. Dragging myself closer and closer to the light, my hope grew with each step that I took. But it wasn't the way out that I found. It was a house. A big, old house in the middle of the forest. I didn't know someone lived inside the forest. Maps never showed any houses within these woods. A big one like this would've been marked on a map for sure.

It was old, and broken in many places. Wine and ivy crawled up the walls, covering almost all of its original brown colour with their dark green leafs.

Hesitantly I walked towards the entrance of the house. A massive wooden door. Maybe they would let me stay overnight.

My knocking on the door broke the deep silence that surrounded me, echoing into all directions. Only then I noticed how rotten the wood felt beneath my skin. It looked massive and intact but it was just as old as the rest of the house.

I waited, listening carefully if something moved behind the door. Was someone home? Should I turn away again? Keep on walking through the seemingly endless woods?

Suddenly the door flung open revealing a middle aged, tall man. He was built rather brought, his features sharp.
‚What is a young boy like you doing here at this hour?' He said in a worried, fatherly voice. ‚Don't you know how dangerous it is out here.'

‚I'm-I'm sorry to disturb you sir, but I' I stammered, my voice shivering like the rest of my body. ‚I got lost.'

‚Poor boy.. come in come in.' I was hushed inside, the door falling shut behind me. Immediately I was caught by a soothing warmth, that relaxed my quivering limbs.
