"Lockhart's starting a dueling club? That could be fun." Oliver and I stood outside the library after finishing up our potion homework. "Well, fun to watch him attempt to duel."
"Maybe he's better at dueling, than teaching?" I shrugged.
"Doubt it... Are we going to go?"
"Yeah," I said, turning away.
Oliver carried my books back to the tower for me.
There was a storm raging outside, so the common room was packed. Oliver and I crammed into a couch near the stairs, and got out my book.
In the period of time since the Slytherin match, there had been an attack on a student. Similarly to what happened to Mrs Norris, Gryffindor first year, Collin Creevy had been found in a corridor. Percy had tightened up more than usual, and was making sure none of the younger students went anywhere they weren't supposed to. He had ranted to me about catching Ron, his brother, coming out of the girls' bathroom. I ignored him.
Ginny had started to panic. Despite being pure blood, she was scared. She took a seat near Oliver and I, finding comfort in me, more than her brother.I put my head on Oliver's shoulder, "I think I might come to yours for Christmas this year."
"Wait, really?" His head spun so fast that he smacked his chin into my nose. "-are you ok?"
"Yeah," I said, my voice muffled, as I clutched my nose. "Mum and dad are going out of the country, but they don't want me to stay at school - you know, with the chamber thing. Can you ask?"
"Yeah!" He coughed, shifting back into the couch. "Yeah."~
Lockhart's dueling club was indeed 'fun'.
All the tables in the Great Hall had been re-arranged to make a runway down the middle of the room, where Lockhart was standing. Oliver and I shuffled in, getting as close to the walls as possible (out of the blast radius).
Lockhart waltzed up and down the length of the podium, eyeing us. "Good to see so many people here."
He turned to me, flashing a smile. I instinctively leaned closer to Oliver.
"In light of the darkness cast by recent events-" Lockhart's eyes travelled around the room. "-Professor Dumbledore has granted me special permission to start this little dueling club. To train you all up, in case you ever need to defend yourself, as of course, I have done on countless occasions. For full details, see my published works."
Oliver pretended to gag, making me cover my mouth, to suppress a small laugh.Lockhart continued to walk the podium as he spoke, one hand on his hip, eyes traveling between the people in the room. "Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape."
Fred nudged me, "bet Snape's happy about that."
"He's sportingly agreed to help me with demonstrations today," Lockhart said. "Now I don't want any of you to worry, you'll still have your potions master when I'm through with him."
"But will he still have our Dark Arts teacher?" Mumbled George, from next to Fred. The two professors prepared to duel, bowing, before walking to either end of the platform. They readied their wands and- "Expelliarmus!"
Lockhart was sent flying backwards, the hall erupting into laughter.
He got back up. "An excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don't mind me saying, it was quite obvious what you were about to do, and if I had wanted to, I could've easily stopped you."
"Perhaps you should teach the student's how to block unfriendly spells." Snape stood, soaking up the dim lighting of the room.
"Yes! Excellent idea!" Lockhart's eyes fluttered around the room. "Let's have a volunteer pair... Potter! Weasley! How 'bout you?"Harry began to climb onto the platform.
"Weasley's wand causes devastation with the simplest of spells. We'll be sending Potter to the hospital wing in a matchbox," Snape said. "Might I suggest someone from my own house? Malfoy, perhaps?"
I groaned, watching the blond climb up from the other end. Oliver slid a hand around my waist, and leaned in, "Don't make a scene.""Wands at the ready!" The two boys put their wands before them, before turning and preparing. "On the count of three, cast your charms to disarm you opponent. Only to disarm! We don't want any accidents here." The second years bore into each other. "One! Two-"
"Everte Statum!" Malfoy shouted, throwing Harry into the air. He slammed back into the table dramatically, before getting back up.
"Rictusempra!" In return, Harry flung Malfoy backwards. He landed in front of Snape, who had a displeased scowl on his face.
