MondayYou cursed to yourself as you stumbled into the building, having been caught in the rain along with a few others as you dashed across the parking lot. It was so strange. The storm clouds just rolled in out of nowhere with very little warning. Not a drizzle or that crisp telltale scent that fills the air before a storm.
Just straight up sun and then cloudburst.
Kind of like the way your life seemed to be going these days. One minute you were content and unsuspecting of any changes to swoop down on you and then BAM. Down come all of these feelings and thoughts and concerns and doubts and possibilities of you didn't know what.
Anyway...
You were thankful to have been wearing all black today, so no wet T-shirt contest vibes. Despite your black blouse still sticking and clinging to you inappropriately. Chiffon be damned. Maybe there was a blow dryer somewhere in the office you could borrow. Or someone could loan you a shirt while you hung yours up to dry.
The office building was pretty scarce, save for the group higher-ups and other supervisors filing in. It was the beginning of a new quarter so that usually meant the lot of you came in earlier than the rest of the staff to plan and get ready for upcoming meetings. So this wasn't just a normal Monday. It would be a long one, that due to your whirlwind weekend, you were not mentally prepared for.
As you thought about it further, you trudged distractedly into your department, not noticing that the lights were already on but not thinking much of it as you made your way down the aisle towards your office on quick feet.
"Whoa.."
You freeze, turning around with startled eyes at the voice coming from the cubicle you expected to be empty as you passed it. Taehyung lifts his head from his work, his tired eyes regarding you with surprise and concern.
This had been the first thing he'd said to you in over a week.
"What happened to you?" he rights his posture as his eyes took in your drenched attire. Your hair wasn't completely done for thanks to your purse and magazine, but from the shoulders down your outfit was dripping and soggy.
But he looked perfect in his wrinkle-free dress shirt and tie, as usual.
"Um...Rain. Out of nowhere. How did you get in here?" You shake your head to dispel the residual attraction from overwhelming your thoughts. As if Taehyung couldn't see straight through you. He lets an ironic smile cross his face and he nods towards the door.
"They unlock the doors early at the beginning of a new quarter." he shrugs, looking up at you passively.
"Yes, I'm aware of but.."
"I figured I'd come in and get a jump on some things. Get reorganized and whatnot." Taehyung cuts in, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest with another nonchalant shrug that flexes his forearms.
You blinked dramatically at his answer, not really knowing why it surprised you so much. You already knew how conscientious and proactive Taehyung was as a worker.
"Wow. That's..impressive. With that kind of attitude, you'll be bumped up and promoted out of this department in no time.." you joke, and Taehyung nods with very little humor in his eyes.
"Yes ma'am, that's my goal. I um....I've actually put in a request to begin training for another position in a different department. " he tilts his head, gauging every detail of your blanching face. You wished you could act indifferent towards his callous response.
