No one should ever have to face life alone, not even the simplest parts. Dalia Evans, however, was essentially alone in her life. As a child, Dalia always thought of herself as lucky, she had a loving and nurturing mother who supported, encouraged, and loved her endlessly. Her father was a wealthy, yet busy businessman, who always did his best to make his daughter happy. She was an only child, but she had friends and parents that never let her feel alone. Her childhood best friend, Luke, was always with her, and Dalia saw her life as perfect. That was until her father's nightly drink turned into days of black outs and violent acts. On days when her father's drinking was too much, her mother would send her to Luke's and call when it was safe to come home. On Christmas Eve when Dalia was seventeen, she couldn't make her escape, as her father had taken her car keys and thrown them in the fire place, and she watched in horror as her once loving and kind father plunged a kitchen knife into the porcelain skin of her beaten and bruised mother's neck, ending the Dalia's life as she knew it.
