We sat next to Adam, and told Mrs. Grant to rest for the night as we would take care of him.
Once we were sure she left, we decided to ask Adam about the whole situation.
"Adam was the Ethan , Uncle John's grandson?", I asked ruthlessly.
Adam lowered his head and didn't answer the question.
It was enough for me to connect the dots. I took Adam's phone from his side table and asked him to unlock it. I opened the text messages, only to open the one I saw when I stayed at his place, in the morning of the "Transfer completion from company account".
"These transfers go to Uncle John, right?", I asked and he nodded.
"What was he doing at your company that day?", Ryan asked interrupting us.
"He has interning under my father, as a favor that Uncle had asked for from me.", he said.
"Little did he know that will get his son killed", I said softly.
"Lucy? What did you say? I never did it on purpose. It was a mistake.", Adam explained himself.
"You didn't kill him", I said.
"Carter was the one who suffocated him to death on the hospital bed. Removed the oxygen mask", Ryan said looking at the ground.
"That can't be true, he couldn't do that", Adam said.
"We saw a video in his laptop, his confession that he recorded the night before he died.", I said.
"Where is it?", Adam asked.
"My place", I said.
"Who knows about it?", he asked.
"Just us", Ryan said.
There was a moment of silence in the room.
Another thought hit me this time thinking about Carter and his sin.
"Adam did you have any hallucination ?", I asked.
"Nope", he said.
"Crap, I should have figured it out", I said getting up from the side of his bed.
"Is he in danger?", Ryan asked.
"No, he never was", I said and both of them looked at me with utter confusion.
I continued, "Adam, you never had hallucinations, all you had were nightmare, that too before you were cursed. You never had Ethan's murder on you, It was on Carter."
"The nightmares?", Ryan asked
"He had them before the whole cave thing", I said.
"What about the blood on my hands?", Adam asked.
"The journal could answer that", Ryan said.
"I'll go get it", I said and ran to the exit of the hospital.
It took me 20 minutes to come back. I ran back to his room, and handed the journal to Ryan.
We sat on either side of Adam's bed to read it.
"We should have read it properly earlier", Ryan said.
"When did you read it?", Adam asked.
"They night after we went to the cave", I told Adam, Ryan nodded.
"Here look at this", I said as they looked at the page where I pointed my finger.
It read:-
"The one who sins, shall have to pay for them.
If he doesn't he will face it's wrath.
If he does, or already had redeemed himself,
he shall be set free.
The blood comes, and it goes,
It is cursed, shall it occur on a damaged soul,
redemption and guilt is all he wanted
and that is all"
"You were right", Ryan said as we closed the journal and placed it on the side.
