His voice seemed older than he was, which hinted at the idea of him seeing much more than he should've as a mere butler.
"In case anything happens? What's that supposed to mean?" I felt my brows furrow a bit. "And what do you mean Heritage?"
He takes a deep breath. "This doesn't go anywhere, and I didn't tell you, ok?" I nodded a bit, and he closes his eyes, as if meditating if it was a good idea, before taking my hands. "Malak is an Angel, and Damien has become a demon. He's been twisted by the manor, and Malak was sent to try and take care of him, but found himself stuck here as well. Damien's room is the safest place from their quarrels, believe it or not; but please, Jaidyn, watch yourself around them. I don't know what they're capable of."
My mind reeled for a moment at this. Damien was a demon, and Malak was an angel? I rub my eyes. "Ok, so... Damien and Malak are basically at war due to them being of opposite sides?" He nods a bit. "And Damien's room is the safest place if they begin to fight?"Another nod. Tyler had nothing to gain by lying to me, so he must've been honest with this. But it was too much- Angels and Demons? They weren't supposed to exist-
A knock made me jump, and Tyler's eyes widened. "Jaidyn, are you in there? Tyler, you as well?" Damien's voice came from the door. The male on the bed beside me visibly relaxed at this, which was strange. Weren't Angels good, and Demons bad?
"Yes, my lord," and moments later, Damien walks in, shutting the door behind himself. He straightens his tie, and adjusts his suit jacket.
"Tyler, please go help the Colonel clean the dining room." His words were smooth, and calm as he walked over. Tyler stands and bows a little, before rushing out. Damien takes his place on the bed. "I understand you now are aware of your current circumstances, yes?" I nod a little.
"I understand you'll believe this is due to my... beliefs, of sorts; however I want to ask you to be on your toes around Malak. He will stop at nothing to take advantage of you." A small touch of concern was laced in his words, and I nodded a little, showing him I understood. Why was he concerned, if he had become a demon? Could demons be concerned? "If you need anything, you know where my room is." With that, he stands, and opens the door, walking out of the room.
I lay back on my bed, closing my eyes. This was a lot to process, and it didn't help that I was too nervous to eat; so now I was starving too. I roll over and get off the bed, sitting by my suitcase. I was planning on only staying a week, so I had packed accordingly, thankfully.
I pull out a tank and sweats for bed, before getting up and walking over to a periwinkle door, opening it and stepping into a bathroom. The cabinets were painted a soft grey, with black and white marble tops, the flooring being a rich brown hardwood. Gentle light streams in through the window, and I begin to strip down.
I avoid the mirror, not looking at myself or the scars I got from childhood. Some I was proud of, some I weren't; some were of my own making... others I had no consent in. I pull my tank over my head, pulling my hair back into a ponytail before looking up, being startled at seeing Malak in the door frame. Some sort of cry crawls its way out of my throat, before I whip around, my eyes wide and my cheeks burning.
"Have you not heard of knocking??" I ask a little irritably, pushing past him and back into the bedroom. I got no response for a minute or two, before I begin to say something else, and he interrupts me.
"I assume you know about Damien and I, correct?" His tone implied he was bored, and I was fed up with being talked to like a child.
"Yes. I know you're an angel and he's a demon. I know you're both trapped and hate each other. I know the mansion is what made Damien a demon. I know-" He grabs my jaw, his once green eyes turning a deep amber. I tried to push him away, not being successful, only making my heart race more.
"Watch your tone, little girl. You don't speak to me that way; understood?" My eyes began to tear up as I nodded a little, his scowl seeming to deepen. "Use your words."
"Yes- yes sir-" I stammer, and he lets go, cleaning his hand, before looking back over at me.
"You'd do best to know your place, mortal. I came to speak to you about your beliefs, but it's obvious you believe in neither side." With that, he turned on his heel, and walks out, shutting the door behind him, and I could hear a distinct click of the lock. I run over, and try the door, just to be sure. Locked.
I turn, walking over to the bed and sitting down beside it, bringing my knees to my chest. I grab the ring and take it off looking at it. "Mom, what do I do..?" I rub my jaw where he'd grabbed me, and notice my cheeks were wet. That thing that claimed to be an angel... Damien was right, I needed to be careful.
That following morning, I awoke to a quiet room, with sunlight peeking in through the blinds. I rub my eyes, sitting up, resting my head in my hand tiredly. I didn't remember what my dream was, but it was extremely unpleasant. I sigh softly, before getting up, and checking my phone for the time.
It was 6:58, I definitely needed to get up. I grab my makeup bag, and take it into the bathroom, flipping on the light. I gasp softly, dropping said bag shortly after. There was the beginnings of bruising where his hand had been last night... which meant I needed to cover it up.Cursing under my breath, I got to work, starting with foundation and working my way down to highlighter. I couldn't stand my reflection, but I had to deal with it to hide the large, hand shaped bruise on my face and neck.
I had a horrible gut feeling about this, and I didn't want there to be any sort of fighting due to this. I finish up, making sure it shows minimally if at all. I wouldn't lie, I was growing more and more anxious by the minute. Would they be able to tell anyway? I take a deep breath, before going to get changed for the day.
I knew I was a bit shaky, but until Tyler asked what was up, I had no idea how bad it really was. I stare at him, trying to muster a confused look, before he takes my wrist gently, bringing me into the back room. "You're nervous, and a lot worse than you were yesterday. What happened? Did Damien or Malak-" I couldn't help myself, and I hugged him tightly.
"I don't wanna talk about it..." My words trailed off as my eyes closed, relaxing for a moment, before composing myself and letting go. "Sorry, the information from last night is just a bit much-" A cleared throat makes me jump, and Malak stands in the doorframe. I could feel my heart start to pound, as his eyes were trained on the bruise I'd tried to cover.
He almost seemed to smirk, before speaking. "Tyler, the Colonel needs help in the kitchen. You'd do best to hurry, or the food will burn." Tyler bows, before rushing out of the room. I try to follow him, but my arm is grabbed by the Angel.
"I don't think I told you that you were allowed to leave." Ice dripped from each word, and I turn to look at him nervously. "You want to leave, yes?" My gut wrenched, but I nod, attempting to swallow the fear of what may happen. "There is a small opening here in 2 days. But you must do exactly as I tell you, when I tell you. Do you understand?"
This guy had to be insane, to think I'd accept something like this, there would be another opening, right? "No, it happens only on the Harvest Moon, which is in 2 days time." He was studying me, could he read my mind? I take a step back, feeling extreme heat and my vision starting to go white at the edges. I was going to die-
"Malak, I must ask that you leave the room." There was someone in front of me, who was it? Tyler, maybe? But it sounded like Damien so that couldn't be right-
"I'm trying to help her escape; you know she's the only one of us that can." The words seems to fade as he spoke, before my stomach drops, and the world around me becomes black.
