Everything in the universe stopped all at once. His eyes caught mine and I was consumed but the light dark blue eyes only Nathan could possess. He looked bad. Not bad in an ugly way bad because he was covered in mud from head to foot and his hair had been eaten by grass and hay. My feet started to move for me. Running so fast to him the bruise on my side is screaming at me to stop but I couldn't stop because the only thing in the world I wanted was Nathan. His arms opened and he embraced me with his strong arms. It felt like we were back in the enclosed sitting in my house watching bad tv eating cheese puffs. After how ever long it was he whispered into my ear
"Don't worry, we can go home now."
My body went still. The earth seemed to have run out of oxygen. I can't go home, they won't let me go home. I don't want to go home.
"Maybe we should go Talk in private." I whisper back to him.
I hadn't realized how close chance was until he spoke to me.
"Do you really think that's a good idea?"
Finally I take my head from Nathan's chest to glare at chance.
"What do you mean? I'm perfectly safe with him." I snap at him.
I eventually look at everyone around us and they look scared of Nathan like he's about to attack.
"Don't listen to him or anyone here Clara. I wouldn't do anything to you. But you must come with me immediately." Nathan pulls my hand tugging me away from everyone. The more I think about it he seems on edge. Like he needs to get out of here as fast as he can, not like he's just uncomfortable. Chance storms over and pulls my hand the other way back towards camp and I feel safer now with him instead of Nathan.
You know those things that happen in a flash? Like your brain can't keep up with what is happening right in front of your eyes. That was this, one minute both boys are pulling for me. The next, Nathan is pulling out a gun, not just any gun but the ones the guards use back at the enclosed.
"Clara you have to come with me. One way or another." his voices cracks with fear as he says it and he looks scared of the object he holds. I loosen my grip and his hand falls. I hear a shot but it's not at me, it's at chance.
And the only thing I see next, Is red.
