I changed into the dress that Alex had given me and laced up my boots. I didn't bother arguing because I knew there was no point, and I wouldn't get very far with that, I wouldn't even be able to muster out the word 'no' without stuttering and giving in.

I opened my door slightly and peered out to see if Alex was still there. She noticed me looking and smiled.
"You done?" I nodded and she pushed her way into my room again.

"Hmm.. It's missing something. Got any jewellery? I mean, other than that little gold chain." I nodded and pointed to my draws that had a black and red jewellery box sitting on top. She walked over and began raiding my jewellery, as she does. After about two minutes, she came back with two things in her hand. She had brought me a hand made, almost-chocker rope necklace that had a small rose quartz rock wrapped in silver wire attached to it and a thin leather bracelet that had small silver studs poking out of it.
"The gold charm bracelet is nice and all, but I think these would give it a nicer touch."
I put them on like she directed and a look of admiration covered her face.

"You look really nice, I'm sure my parents will love you!" She smiled and grabbed my hand, dragging me into my en suit. She picked up my makeup bag that I had conveniently left lying on the sink bench and began searching through it. Eventually, she grabbed out red eye shadow, an eyeliner pen + pencil, mascara and a faded red lipstick.

"I think we should do your hair first, you got a brush and curling iron?" I nodded and pointed to the shelf next to the shower.
"Up there."
She eagerly grabbed my brush and curling iron and began brushing through my hair.

"I really do like your hair, Riley. It's very soft, and not dead either. You'd expect someone who bleached and dyed their hair bright blue to have dead hair." She proceeded to brush through my hair, separating my bangs from the rest of my hair.

"I uh... I didn't bleach it. My hair is naturally blonde." I said, barely audible. She smiled at me and continued brushing. My hair no longer had anything to brush out, so I don't know why she hasn't stopped yet.

"Can I grab your phone for music?" I nodded again and she stopped brushing my hair. She plugged in the curling iron and left the room to grab my phone.

When she returned, she pressed shuffle on my Spotify app and Austin Jones' cover for Drown started playing.
"You listen to Austin's music?" I nodded again as she began to roll my hair up in the curling iron.

"I'm in this thing on YouTube with him called My Digital Escape. Heard of it?" I didn't move or say anything. Of course I knew about it, I just refused to believe that Alex fucking Dorame was sitting next to me on the plane, and is now in my house, curling my hair for me. I guess that's why I'm more shy than usual.

We spent the rest of the time in silence and she curled the rest of my hair and did my makeup.
When she was done, I have to admit, I looked amazing. I had a layer of eyeliner around my eyes and faint red shadow on my eyelids. She had also applied some mascara and curled my lashes. As for the lipstick, I had never used it before. I got it about a week ago but had never tried it on. It looked really nice with this makeup. And my hair. God I didn't know it could look like this.

"You look amazing. Like, red carpet ready kind of amazing." I began blushing and put my head down.

"Your telling me, I never knew my hair and makeup could look so nice!" I said, completely dumbfounded.

"Haha, I'm good aren't I?" She started wiggling her eyebrows playfully and I giggled at her. "Now c'mon, your grandparents are probably all ready to go by now." She grabbed my hand again and pulled me out of my room and down the stairs.

I held my breath as I entered the living room. There were my grandparents, sitting on the couch, dressed quite nicely. They have never seen me with so much makeup on before, let alone in a dress so I was a bit nervous as to what they would say.

My grandma stood up and clasped my hands in hers. "You look gorgeous sweety. This is the first time I've seen you in a dress! It's very nice."

I smiled and thanked her. That's probably the nicest thing she's ever said about my appearance before.

"Alright, we should get next door. Don't want to keep your parents waiting, now do we Alex?" She nodded and took my hand to pull me away from my grandparents.
"But first." She paused to grab her phone from the kitchen counter and came back to me. "We gotta take a selfie!" She opened the camera and put on an effect that made us stand out more. "Say cheese."

She leaned in to me and smiled, taking a picture of both of us. I smiled as well, but it was only a reaction to having my picture taken. "Can I post it?"

"I, uh... Sure, I-I guess.." I looked down at my shoes and played with the golden bracelet that Cassie gave to me. I hadn't taken it off since she put it on my wrist. Well, except for showering.

"Alright, let's get goin!" We all filed out of the house and began walking next door to where Alex lived.

"So, when you meet my parents, don't be alarmed, okay? They can be really talkative and my mum is a hugger. Also, they're spastics so don't mind them when they say stupid things." She looked down at me and smiled. Well, now I know where she gets it from. Gosh, I'm so short compared to her. I only go up to roughly around her chin.

"Alright, we're here, obviously." She opened the door and gestured for us to come in. I walked in after everyone else and kept quite, trying not to draw the attention of her parents to myself. I mostly just stood behind my grandad.

Everyone was exchanging names and greeting each other, until it came to be my turn. Alex's mum leaned around my grandad and looked at me with a pleasant smile.

"I'm Alex's mum, but you can just call me Mrs. Dorame, or if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can just call me mum." She smiled again, a little brighter this time.

"Ugh, mum, don't say that, your gonna scare her off." Alex whined, grabbing onto my arm.

"Haha sorry. What's your name, beautiful?" I looked down at my feet and fiddled with the golden charm bracelet.

"Uh, m-my name is, uh, R-Riley." I was practically choking on my words. Alex turned to me and rubbed my arm a little, trying to comfort me. It worked a little bit too.

"Mum, please, take it easy with her. She's really shy, but she'll come around." Alex smiled at her parents and took my hand, taking me over to the dinning room.

"Cmon everyone, let's eat, I'm starving." She then turned her attention to me. "What about you? Are you hungry?"

I looked up at her smiling face. Why is she being so kind to me? And why does she make me feel so much more at ease, even when all I want to do is hide myself in a dark corner? I pushed my thoughts aside and nodded. I really am hungry though.

We all sat down and began eating. Her mom had cooked vegan chicken with potato salad, since Alex and I are both vegetarians, something I remembered her mentioning in a video.

We all made small talk while we ate, well, everyone else made small talk, I just sat there quietly, listening in and vaguely answering questions that were directed toward me. The whole time I was pretty distracted just staring at Alex though. Gosh, she's just so pretty, too bad she's probably straight. And even though she can be a bit too upfront, she is so nice and has a great personality.

The food was really nice, Alex's mom is a really good cook. I hope I've made a good enough impression.
We all finished our food fairly quickly, and to before long, we had to leave.

"Goodbye, it was lovely meeting you, and that you so much for dinner." My grandma said as she shook Mrs. Dorame's hand.

"It was a pleasure sharing a meal with you all, I'm sure it will be pleasant having you as neighbours." She replied with a bright smile.

"Uh, bye Alex.. T-Thanks for uh, having us over for dinner." I usually would've been fine saying that to Alex, but her parents were there, so I still felt quite nervous.

"Haha, no problem, come over anytime." She said, giving me a small hug. I smiled at her and nodded to her parents in thanks. I still couldn't really talk to them, there was something about them that just intimidated me, like I had the feeling they didn't like me very much.
