The Dream

“It was awful. I know that, but there’s nothing I can do to change it. It was tragic, yes, but not even you my dear can change it.” Zach says.

“It’s your fault that we’re even in this freaking mess! It was your fault and you act innocent!” I scream at him.

“Don’t talk to me that way. It’s not like you’re much of a saint yourself ‘Miss Grace’.” God he has a way of getting under my skin. I don’t understand how he can be so calm I mean he did just off an innocent little girl.

“Zach I have dealt with my thirst for blood now it is your turn. You can’t keep expecting Lucas and me to get you out of trouble every time. Especially when you go out and seek the trouble you manage to get into.”

“Look at it this way Grace I am just saving the world from one more teenage mother who would’ve either beat her child or gave it up for adoption.” How can he joke about this? And smirk the entire time too, good Lord he is infuriating.

“No you don’t get it! She was sixteen you idiot! You not only took her blood you also took advantage of her!”

“Hey she went willingly.” He says holding his hands up in mock surrender. I don’t really know what came over me but the next thing I know is my hand is flying through the air and connecting with Zachariah’s face and it looks like a doozy.

“What in God’s name was that for?” He says gently touching his cheek.

“You are a pig! You disgust me to point I thought no one other than Charles was capable of. You do not and will not ever deserve to have immortality. It is a gift that you should never have been gifted!”

“Ouch. That really stung Grace.” Zachariah says holding his hands over his heart.

“Mock me all you want but you are a part of the reason in why we will never be able to come out of hiding.” I say mustering up the dirtiest look I can.

“You’re mad.” Is that all he can say? Seriously?

“Really genius? Because it isn’t obvious or anything.” I give him a pointed look.

“Look it won’t happen again.” Zach says.

“Where have I heard this before?” I say walking away. He is nothing but pond scum I won’t ever understand why Lukas keeps him around. When I look up I see Lukas is standing among all the headstones and he has never looked better.

“What did he do to deserve the wrath of Miss Grace?”

“He killed another girl. Drained her completely dry.” I say as I continue walking to his side.

“Grace I’m sorry. You shouldn’t have to deal with this. I’ll talk to him okay?” He says as he wraps his arms around my waist. I bury my face in his chest.

“Lukas what will that do? You’ve talked to him before and look at what good that did.” I say but it comes out muffled.

“I know-“ Lukas starts to say.

“I hate to cut the “Everyone bash on Zach” party short, but we have company.” Zach says.

“Charles, what an unpleasant surprise.” I say bitterly.

“Grace my dear, always a pleasure.” Charles says smirking. He actually has the guts to freaking smirk right now? Unbelievable.

“I will rip you limb from limb you coward!” Zach says. Lukas and Zach try to shield me behind them but I step in front of them and keep going until the toes of my shoes touch the toes of Charles’ shoes.
