I’d probably be mad to if the expression on her face weren’t so funny. I suddenly hear a deep chuckle right in front of me so I stop and look up. Sure enough it’s the school hottie.

“You sure do know how to push Lisa’s buttons. You know I never did catch your name.” Hottie says as he leans against a row of lockers in the hall. Yeah I didn’t get yours either smarty I think to myself as a shiver rolls down my back from his voice.

“Maybe it’s her who knows how to push my buttons and my inner kitten came out to play,” I wink then continue, “and you didn’t get my name because I didn’t give it to you.” I finish smirking.

“Oh kitten huh? Maybe you should give me your name then kitten?” He says and smiles a knee buckling smile.

“You’re a big boy I’m sure you can figure it out. Why don’t you ask Barbie? I’ll bet she has quite a few names for me.” I say as I walk away or at least try to since he just follows me. Not that I mind of course.

“Seems you’ve been busy and we’re only in second period.” He says as he smirks at me. Of course I’d get stuck talking to a hot asshole. He couldn’t have been nice. Oh no, had to be an asshole.

“Look I have better things to do than talk to assholes like you. So why don’t you and Barbie leave me out of whatever is going on between the two of you?” I say looking him in the eyes and then I keep walking. Where the hell is room 207? Good lord this school is complicated and it’s not even half the size of my old school.

“There is nothing going on between me and Lisa.” He says as he jogs to catch up to me and matches my stride.

“Really? Maybe you should tell her that.” I say pointing at bitchy Barbie who is currently glaring at me. I assume it has something to do with bad ass Ken talking to me and not her.

“Yeah maybe I should.” He says as he walks away from me and towards her. I take that as my cue and hurry to class. My morning classes go by a lot slower than I thought possible because I’m so far ahead of this school's curriculum, but I survive and make my way to lunch. The lunch room is loud I can hear everyone from down the hall but the second I walk in it gets quiet. Well this isn’t awkward... As I’m walking over to the lunch line I hear Barbie mutter ‘slut’ under her breath and I stop cold in my tracks while turning a malicious glare on her.

“Excuse me, bitch?” I say looking right at her so she knows I heard her.

“You heard me, I didn’t stutter.” She says smirking at me while her cronies giggle at her joke. Bitch that’s what I said to you earlier!

“Look, I don’t know who lit the fuse on your tampon and I also don’t give a rat’s ass so leave my fucking social status out of this biotch.” I say and walk away while everyone in the cafeteria burst into shocked laughter while I go get my lunch and eat it outside. A girl with long caramel colored curly hair follows me outside and walks up to me. I can’t really see her face because of the sun so I just plop down at a table while she continues to over to me.

“That was amazing no one ever stands up to Lisa like that. Ever.” She says and I just quirk my eyebrow.

“Oh,” she giggles and sticks her hand out, “My name is Katy.” I shake her hand and take a bite of my burger then say,

“I’m Jess-”

“Oh I know who you are, you’re Jesse Atkins you moved from New York. Your parents recently split up and your mother is an international clothing designer. While your dad is a big shot lawyer born and raised in ‘The Big Apple’.”

“Wow. You know more about me than I do.” I say around a mouthful of food which I swallow then say, “Uh how exactly do you know all this?”

“I live two houses down from you, our parents have kind of been seeing each other for the past three months.” She says as she practically jumps up and down this girl is way too bubbly. I think I’m going to like her.

“Cool, nice to meet you Katy.” I say as I continue to stuff my face. Even though it’s October it’s surprisingly warm out. The school has a nice little area for us to eat outside there’s even a field for sports or whatever that isn’t a part of the football field.

“Yeah?” She says holding her hand up to shield her eyes from the sun.

“Yep so are you gonna stand there awkwardly or are you going to sit with me?” I say pointing at the chair across from me. What can I say? I got a soft spot for bubbly people.
