Sariyah

We were all sitting at the dinner table in awkward silence, at least it was awkward for me but I don't think his parents noticed.

Sarah perked up and started clapping her hands catching all of our attention.

"Sariyah I completely forgot! I had a gentleman come in today and your design on the wall caught his eye, he wants you to design his property"

I nervously smiled

"I don't know, I haven't designed in so long"

She put her hand on top of mine trying to comfort me a little bit.

"Sweetie you are so much like your mom. You have this amazing talent and your so afraid to free yourself. But, just like I pushed your mom to accomplish her dreams; I'm here to do the same for you"

I dapped the tears that were threatening to fall, slowly nodding my head.

"Good, because I already sent him your contact information"

The three of us chuckled while Ryan sulked on the opposite side of the table as me.

I picked up my fork and began pushing my food around, my new nervousness devouring my appetite.

"So, son, how is the job hunt going?"

I peaked through my lashes at Ryan to see him rolling his eyes.

"If you just give me my inheritance I wouldn't need a job."

Sarah began rubbing her temples as Ryan's dad, Jason, tightened his grip on his silverware.

"We have discussed this Ryan. You need to show us you can handle the responsibility of all that money before I even think about signing it over."

"No just won't sign it over cause im not you precious 'pretty girl' "

"Look here Ryan, I understand you are upset but I will not tolerate your disrespect towards Sariyah. I hope this isn't how you treat your girlfriend on a regular. We raised you better tha-"

"OH JUST SHUT UP! THIS DISGUSTING PIG HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER BE MY GIRLFRIEND!"

"RYA-"

"NO! You always treat her sooo special, just because her parents died. Boo-fucking-hoo-"

Before I could stop myself I stood up from my chair.

"You don't EVER get to speak on my parents. My parents-"

"Sariyah, honey"

I shook Sarah off as she tried to grab me, and took a deep breath.

"You don't deserve Sarah and Jason. And you damn sure don't deserve me. I hope all the karma that is coming for you hurts like hell. I'm done with you"

I grabbed my stuff heading for the door hearing Ryan's parents shouting at him as I left.

To SafLove💋: Meet me at our spot. Code 5.

Immediately my phone started ringing with a Facetime call from Safarie.

I didn't even bother to wipe the streams of tears flowing from my face before I answered.

"Marlee?!"

"He brought up my parents Farie...after everything they did for him...for them..."

She just let me cry as I watched her walk out the front door.

"You can't drive like this YahYah. I'm coming to get you"

I nodded and laid back, listening to the sounds of Safarie driving just letting the tears fall.

*10 minutes later*

"I'm pulling up YahYah."

I nodded, grabbing my belongings and ending the call. As I started getting out of the car Ryan's dad came out the house.

"Sariyah, why didn't you tell us?"

I looked down, shrugging.

He pulled me into a hug.

"Your dad was my bestfriend and I promised him when you were a little girl that if it ever came a time he couldn't be here that I would make sure that our pretty girl was happy and taken care of."

He chuckled a little, cause my whole body to shake with him.

"Of course he did all the hard work, as usual, but I want to keep my promise Sariyah. You don't owe us anything, you deserve the world and now that I know Ryan isn't that for you I feel terrible not seeing it before."

Safarie pulled up causing Jason to release me.

"We'll talk about this later pretty girl."

He cupped both of my cheeks and placed a light kiss on my forehead, like my dad use to do whenever he was headed to work, causing a small smile to form on my face.

He waved at Safarie before nudging me towards her car.

"I'll have someone drop off your car tomorrow morning"

As soon as I got in the car Safarie put a blunt, cookies, and a lemon tea in my lap and headed towards the cliff we always go to when one of us needs a break from reality.

Tomorrow's a new day....
