"Not every mission can be a success."
Spencer has to tell himself this over and over again as he gets off the plane with the rest of his team. Morgans arm around his waist as the two climb into the taxi together. There was more work to be done, papers to fill out and technical things to complete with the end of another assignment. "Not tonight," Morgan has whispered in Spencer's ear. "Tonight we go home to our kids, and we hold them tight." Spencer had to agree. The paperwork could wait, but he couldn't.
Morgan didn't remove his arm from his husband as the taxi drives down the street. The sun setting makes the sky glow outside of the window, but Spencer doesn't look up to see the mixture of colors in the sky. He looks down at his phone, a picture of him and Vanya pulled up. She's in a concert dress, her shy smile in full display as she holds her violin in one hand, the other holding onto Spencer's arm as he hugs her. Vanya had been so nervous, it was her first concert playing a solo on her violin. Her dads had been so proud of her. It was such a good memory. One that Spencer needed. So he looked on at the picture, and eventually the taxi pulled into their driveway. "She's inside our home. Safe." Morgan whispered before getting out of the taxi and grabbing their bags. Spencer pulled himself out of the car and paid the driver, before following his husband into the house.
-Days before-
"We've got another missing kid." Ross said with grief as he walked into the room that the BAU had made their office in the police station. "Again? So soon?" J.J. asked in surprise as she and Spencer looked away from the board full of evidence and information they were using to track down the newest killer. The team didn't know much yet. The case has started when a couple who had been going on a jog found a ten year old boy's body on a hiking trail. That had been two weeks ago, and it seemed that each week brought on a new victim. The team wasn't expecting another abduction so soon. They thought they had at least three more days before the killer struck again. "Yea, ten year old girl named Lauren. Last seen getting off at the bus stop on her street. Different M.O. and target change. Our unsub has only killed boys so far, what made his change to a girl?" Ross asked as he took the picture of the girl and taped it to the evidence board. Ross and J.J. started going through possible reasons for the changes in the killers tactics, while Reid went to the board to get a closer look at the missing girl. When Reid looked at the picture of Lauren everything around his froze. He blinked, and let out a shaky breath as he got a closer look at the picture. He grabbed the chair behind him so that he could keep himself standing and both his teammates turned to him in concern. "Shit, I meant to warn you Spence. Sorry." Ross said, looking bashful. "Warn him about what?" J.J. asked, confused. "Look at the picture." Ross told her, J.J. did. Spencer heard her gasp a moment later. "Wow, she looks so much like..." J.J. said. "Like my Vanya, yea. Threw me off, but I'm okay." Reid said letting go of the chair and shaking off the hand Ross had put on his arm. "But it's not her, and we have a job to do." He said looking at the picture. Lauren had long brown hair, bangs that covered her forehead and rested right above her eyebrows. Her skin was pale. At first glance Lauren looked a lot like Vanya, but there were differences."There." He said to himself, pointing at the freckles on Lauren's cheeks, his little girl didn't have freckles. He took a moment to look at the picture and found every way that Lauren didn't look like Vanya. "This may not be my girl, but it's someones. So we need to get back to work." He said turning to J.J. and Ross. They both agreed, and returned to the task at hand.

As Spencer and Morgan walked into their house they were ready for the two boys who came running down the hallway. Derek was just able to get the bags on the floor before he had his arms full of Ben and Klaus. "We missed you Papa!" Ben said getting his small arms around Morgan's neck. Morgan picked Ben up while Spencer bent down and took Klaus into his own arms. They were almost too big to carry around in their arms, but both dads agreed that it was alright to coddle them, because they started late in the game of being the kids dads. They were allowed a few extra years of holding their kids in their arms, no matter how big the kids got. "Where are your other siblings?" Spencer asked Klaus, the boy wrapped his arms around Spencer's neck and rested his forehead against his dads neck as he answered. "Luther and Diego are playing video games in the basement, Hank is in your office reading one of your boring chemistry books, Allison is with Grammy in the backyard working on the garden, and Vanya is in her room practicing her violin." Klaus said, legs wrapping around Spencer's hips as the dads walked into the kitchen. It smelled of garlic, a clue for the dads that the kids had convinced Morgan's mom to make some of her famous garlic bread they loved. Ben was climbing on Morgan's back as Spencer reluctantly passed Klaus into Morgan's arms. (when both dads left for longer than a week on an assignment Klaus was always extremely clingy when they returned) "I'm going to go check on Vanya." Spencer told Morgan. "But she's practicing, you always tell us to never interrupt her practicing." Ben noted with confusion, as Klaus . "That's because you all always bother her while she's practicing, now let your dad go do his thing." Morgan said, holding both boys in his arms as he gave Spencer a quick peck on the lips. Spencer smiled, silently thanking his husband before leaving the kitchen and going upstairs. The closer he got, the louder Vanya's violin music got. The itchy feeling in his skin grew as he got closer to the girls bedroom. From the moment the case had closed, the itchiness had started and grown. From leaving the police station, to climbing on the plane, to riding home in the taxi, till now. He knew what he needed, he needed to see Vanya safe. Because the picture of Lauren hanging on the evidence board was haunting him. Spencer was a practical man, he knew that girl wasn't Vanya, he knew that his little girl was safe with the rest of her siblings in their home. But there was something in his heart, telling him that he needed to make sure, his protective dad instincts were on high alert until...
