A/N: Trying to stay in my happy bubble and fix the devastation on Can/Ozgur's face in the trailer
"Özgür!" Ezgi yelled, running over to his side of the patio. They had planned to meet at home after dinner, but her parents had sprung a surprise party on her. She hoped Özgür wasn't too angry with her for being so late.
She found him sitting in an arm chair on her side of the patio with a glass of whisky in his hand. He glanced over at her as she appeared and she was shocked at his expression. He looked utterly destroyed.
She ran up to him and started babbling, trying to wipe the sadness off of his face. "I'm so sorry Özgür! They threw a party for me and I didn't—"
"I know." He looked away trying to hide his anguish from her. Özgür had stumbled upon their party that nobody had bothered to invite him to. He had witnessed the doctor draping that ostentatious necklace around his girl. But, more damningly, he had watched Ezgi accept it all without a word of protest.
Still, he was trying to stay calm. Özgür knew Ezgi like the back of his hand; he knew she wouldn't try to hurt him. But, everyone in her life seemed to be convinced that he was Mr. Wrong and the doctor was Mr. Right. It cut him that they all thought so poorly of him. He didn't think it could be more obvious how firm a grip Ezgi had over his heart. He couldn't even bear to wonder whether she would choose to believe in them or him.
"You know?" Ezgi asked, confused. "Did they invite you?"
"No." Özgür bit out bitterly. "I saw you all. I saw...the doctor wish you happy birthday."
Ezgi's heart flew to her throat, dread filling her stomach. No wonder he looked so devastated.
Özgür stood, downing the rest of his glass. He put the glass on the table and approached her, pleading her with his eyes to give him an explanation. The image of that smug doctor kissing Ezgi on the check haunted him. He reached for her hands and she gave them to him, stroking his fingers with her thumb in a soothing motion. He allowed himself to be calmed as he awaited her answer.
"I didn't know he was going to be there. Or do any of it."
Özgür nodded, expecting this. But, he had to know why she hadn't stopped him. "That necklace looked beautiful." He whispered.
"You know, I've never had anybody do anything like that for me. A big party, a fancy present." Özgür looked down, not liking where this was going. But, Ezgi didn't let him break eye contact, cupping his jaw with her hand and bringing his eyes back up to hers. "But, it didn't mean anything coming from him. The smallest gesture from you? That would mean everything."
Özgür's face slowly broke into a smile: his wide, dimpled, eye-crinkled smile of pure happiness. He suddenly felt so much lighter now that she had confirmed what he had hoped. It was him she wanted, even if nobody else in her life agreed.
Ezgi laughed as Özgür picked her up and spun her around, burying his face in her neck. He peppered kisses along her neck and jaw until he reached her lips. When their lips finally met, heat shot through her as her heart started pumping into overdrive. They were lost in each other, languishing in passionate, drugging kisses. Nobody else had ever made Ezgi feel this alive.
Özgür finally released her as they both came up for breath. He realized how close they were to the pool, having marched backwards as he had become more desperate for leverage. A cheeky idea came to his mind and he buried his face in her neck again, pulling her into his arms. She relaxed, enjoying the touch, completely unaware of his plans for them. Suddenly, he lifted her up and leapt into the pool as she shrieked in surprise and confusion.
