Everything happened too fast. Beth was sitting on the floor catching breath and realized Rachel didn’t say Sebastian died nor how serious the accident was, which meant that he was still alive and the doctors were saving him. “We have to go there. Rachel, he is not dead, you hear me? He is not dead!” Beth practically yelled at Rachel while standing up and calming down. Rachel looked at her with her teary eyes and nodded once. Vincent started talking, but Beth wasn’t quite listening; she only knew she had to take Rachel into the car.
“Beth… what is going to happen if he-”, “He definitely will not die.” Beth assured Rachel and herself in that. As if she will lose another person she loves the same way. “He can’t die.”

When they arrived to the hospital, Beth only had to follow Vincent while helping Rachel; they didn’t want her to pass out. She let Rachel sit down in the waiting room while Vincent went to the information desk. “Rachel! Rachel, I just heard!” a woman with red, short hair and red eyes, wearing one of those medical scrubs was approaching them. Beth didn’t know who she was, but she was obviously a doctor. “What happened? How is he? Tell me!” Rachel quickly stood up as soon as she saw her. “Calm down first, he is stable, out of life danger.” Rachel and Beth heaved a sigh of relief and Beth shut her eyes. The doctor quickly glanced at Beth and then back to Rachel. “He was driving behind a log truck when the truck suddenly stopped and few logs fell off, with one hitting Sebastian’s car. Firemen had to come to pull him out of the car. As far as I know, his pelvic is fractured.”, “They’re still operating him?” Beth asked since Rachel was quiet. “Ah, yes. They’re about to move him to the operating room and I’m one of the assistants.” Beth nodded and bit her lip, hoping that everything will be fine, even though he was stable.

4 hours later, there were still no news from the doctors. Rachel was sleeping, leant on Vincent; they had to give her a tranquilizer, while Beth and Vincent were sitting there, waiting. Beth would go and bring them coffee or something to eat from the vending machine and that was all they did.
The clock on the wall showed ‘6:34’ when the surgeon came out and told about Sebastian’s condition. By then, the Midfords and Ciel came and waited along with Beth and Vincent. The surgeon, older man who looked exhausted, said that they had to amputate his lower right leg since it was completely smashed and couldn’t be healed. The pelvic was only slightly fractured and didn’t have to be operated because it will normally heal, but he won’t be able to walk until it does. There were no internal organ injuries, only bruises and scratches. He had a lot of luck.
Before the surgeon left, Beth asked him if they could see him. “Not for at least 2 more hours.” He answered with ‘I’m sorry’ look on his face and then left them.

There was no force on Earth that could persuade Beth in going back to the house. The Midfords reluctantly left only because Vincent, Rachel and Beth were there, but Beth would rather chain herself to the hospital than left before seeing Sebastian. Even though Rachel and Vincent said they would come back later, Beth refused. She apologized to them, but stayed there. No matter how tired, sleepy or hungry she was, she decided to stay. So Rachel and Vincent let her be; they weren’t her parents so they couldn’t tell her what to do. Talking was useless.

Beth waited and waited, for 3 hours she waited until they finally let her in to see Sebastian.
He was lying peacefully on the table, with all kinds of tubes attached to his fingers, nose and chest. Around his neck was one of those neck supporters. His heart beat was normal, blood pressure too, only he was not. The surgeon did say he had bruises and scratches, but didn’t say how many. On his face were two scratches; short one on his cheek and a longer, about 3 inches on his jaw line, plus a black eye. His left lower arm was wrapped in bandages; he must have protected his face with it. On the right arm was only a big bruise. Beth couldn’t see anything else since he was covered with a sheet and didn’t want to move it, but she could see where the end of his right leg was; just a little below his knee. She gently took his hand into her and caressed it. Not even a twitch came from her when the door of the room opened and someone was standing beside her. “He sure did have a lot of luck.” Beth heard Vincent’s voice and nodded her head. “Rachel is at home, asleep. I asked Angelina when he is going to wake up. She said maybe tomorrow, maybe in three days, it depends.” Once again, Beth nodded. “You do realize you need to rest?”, “Yes.”, “And if you don’t go, that the nurses are going to throw you out?”, “Yes.”, “Well, I’m here to prevent that from happening. Come on, we’ll visit him tomorrow.” Vincent said and put hands on her shoulders. Beth sighed and stood up from the chair she was sitting in. Before she left with Vincent, she kissed Sebastian’s forehead. “Nh…” A moan-like sound came out of him, but nothing else. “Come, let him rest.”
