"excuse me, is it okay if i sit here? this place is packed"

"sure, i don't mind"

the boy pulls the chair and places his bag, he excuses himself again to go back to the counter to get his order. brett takes a look around the place, it sure is packed, everyone's waiting for the rain to stop. he sits back to take a sip of his flat white as he scrolls through his phone. after a few minutes, the boy arrived with his beverage and rearranges his seat.

brett didn't really try to bother the guy, but since he has a companion, it wouldn't hurt to have small talk right? he glances to the boy in front of him, observing. he's wearing a red flannel, black shirt underneath, he has side swept bangs, silver glasses. huh, doesn't look so bad, he must be a college student— with all the fashion and stuff.

"so...what's your name?" brett asked. he was never really that extroverted, he just thinks it's nice to get a bit of some chit chat.

"my names eddy, what's yours?"

"i'm brett"

brett takes a sip of his warm flat white and leans back to the chair. now that he noticed it, eddy's having bubble tea.

"funny how bubble tea reminds me of my really close friend back then, now he just poofed" brett stated, stirring the the spoon on his cup. he puts his elbow on the table and looks upon the window.

"wonder where he is now" eddy said, sipping on his bubble tea, while still staring at brett. brett realizes this, and instead of looking away, he gives the stare back to eddy.

"aw he's—he's probably somewhere reaching for his dreams or something, not that i was included" brett sighs, it's been a long time since he's seen his friend.

"so are you sad about it?" asked eddy

"well, kinda, but i can forgive him for leaving, it's understandable"

"what would you do if you see him again?"

brett pauses and thinks. it's been too long for him to think if he's ever gonna see him back.

"i don't exactly have a script for that, but i guess i'll probably ask some questions, like how he's doing, or something..." brett trails off. he's missed him really. like really missed him. brett was doing fine on his own, but sometimes he feels lonely, but no ones there to cheer him up. so it would be really nice to at least keep in touch with him, not that he tried though, he called, texted, even emailed, but nothing came back.

"don't you think he misses you too?" eddy asked again.

"as if i'll ever know"

"okay then, just to let you know, i missed you"

brett's brows furrowed in confusion. wait does he mean—

"EDDY?!"

"...that's me" eddy smiles. he sounds nervous. mean while brett was in awe. he couldn't believe it.

"dude i can't believe you just left me hanging in ninth grade! where the heck were you?" brett whisper-shouted.

so eddy started to explain, from start to present. his family had to move to another city for business reasons and so he also had to transfer schools.

"what are the chances of meeting you in this small cafe?" brett say, his amusement unwavering.

"well i'm actually glad we met" eddy shoots his toothy grin. he's really happy.

"hell yeah you better be, we have a lot of catching up to do" brett excitingly says. he missed his best friend.

with the clanging of plates around, the drowned conversations from neighboring tables, the sweet smell of the atmosphere, and the cold weather, both smile at each other. no words can describe how happy they are to have fate make them meet again.
