Chapter 18

Present time

Third person POV

Scott stared blankly at the ground. He didn't know what to do, he was... shocked. He played with his finger as he sat on the steps of Liam's porch.

He had called Liam to check on him and to see if he had gotten home alright. Liam didn't answer or text him nor did he call him back, so Scott decided to go check on him. 

He had arrived to multiple cop cars at Liam's house. Scott had talked to Stiles' dad, the sheriff, to see what was going on. He had felt his heart drop when the sheriff told him that it was evidently a break in. He had let Scott inspect the scene and he could smell them.. the berserkers

Worst of all... he could smell Liam's blood and Kate's horrible scent in the room. He feared that Liam was.. gone. That he was.. dead—but he could feel it in his heart that Liam was still alive.

A hand on his shoulder interrupted his thoughts.

"How you holding up?" Stiles asked. Derek was walking towards them as well

"Horrible Stiles, I mean.. what if she did kill him. Why would she kill him?"

Stiles shrugged sadly, he held an apologetic smile to Scott as he rubbed his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

"So, do you know where he is?" Derek asked as he reached them

"I can smell his scent and Kate's too." Scott said, sighing deeply. Derek could smell the sadness radiating from Scott. He was stiff, looking down as he spoke to Derek

Derek nodded, sniffing the air slightly," I hope you know that, that smell of death is coming from the berserker Scott. I'm sure Kate took as a leverage against."

"Why would she be needing him while there's people hunting supernatural creatures right now?" Stiles asked

"Maybe because she knows Scott will come for him. Meaning I'd be there too, as well as you. Peter would probably end up joining us as well Conveniently all the people she believes are at fault for Alison's death." Derek concluded

"So.. she just wants to kill us?" Scott said with a frown

"Or maybe this is a way to give us a warning?" Derek said

"Or just a way to show that she can do whatever she want." Stiles said," Think about it, she literally snatched Liam from the comfort of his own home. It's just her showing that she can take anyone of us no problem. Like her way of showing not to mess with her."

"But we haven't messed with her though, we haven't seen her since the night at the hospital remember? Why would she take him now? After all this time?" Scott asked.  It didn't make any sense. Kate has made it clear she would stay away because as long as the dead pool was still on, they still had a common enemy, the benefactor

"What if she knows?" Scott said after contemplating his thoughts," What if she thinks one of us is the benefactor?"

"And why would she think that?" Derek asked

"I don't know, it's just a theory." Scott shrugged

"Well you wouldn't be so far on it Scott." Stiles said. He had been thinking of who it could be ever since the night at the hospital. It just didn't make sense how the benefactor knew Scott wasn't dead. It was like the person with there in the room with them, knowing Scott was still alive, but just barely.

"What do you mean?" Scott asked. He and Derek turned their attention towards Stiles.

"Well I've been thinking about who it could ever since our... failed attempt. And I've kind of narrowed it down." Stiles said
