    ~Four years later ~

Soren

It has been four years since the love of my life passed away and no, I'm not like some fathers portrayed in books that lives for work and abuses their kid.

Cameron is my entire life. I will never hurt him in anyway. He didn't cry at Hayley's funeral like the rest of us but I think he knows that someone is missing.

"Dad? Where's mommy? Isn't she coming from grandma's house? Doesn't she want me?"

I picked up my four years old son with hair as red as his mother's and silver irises like me.

"Your mother loved you very much. It was her love for you that saved us all. And your mom isn't at grandma's house, she's with God and the Angels now."

"She's coming back?"

"No son, she's not."

His eyes welled up with tears as he hugged me tightly. Carolyn looked over at me and I nodded my head at her answering her unasked question: did you tell him?

"This was mommy's favorite place?" Cameron asked hiding behind me as we entered MacDonald's.

"In the whole world son." I doubt that if she had seen the whole world MacDonald's would be in the number one spot but she died before I could take her anywhere.

"Oh, are we here to remember mommy?"

"No Cam, we're here to buy you anything you want!"

I picked him up and swung him around in the air. His face lit up and for split second, I saw the face of my mate.

I walked up to the counter and asked Cam what he wanted to order. Silent tears rolled down my cheeks as he pointed at a big Mac.

"Are you alright sir?" The cashier asked waiting for me to order.

No.

"Yeah, allergies. A big Mac for Cam and a double cheeseburger for me."

"Can we stop and buy flowers for mommy?" Cameron asked slowly chewing a piece of lettuce.
I nodded at him and smiled.
"Roses."

We drove to the flower shop down the road and entered, the little bell over the door chimed signaling that someone as entered.

"Hello! What kind of flowers do you want sweetie?" I have a feeling that she's not talking to Cam.

"Roses for my wife." I replied watching her face fall. She plastered a smile on her face and handed me a bouquet of red roses. Not caring how much it cost, I placed two hundred dollars on the counter and walked out with Cam stuck to my side.

We arrived at the cemetery and Cameron climbed on to my back, afraid that the zombies will get him.

"Is that mommy's grave?" He asked pointing at the big tiled gravestone in the middle of the cemetery.

"Indeed it is son." I walked over to the grave and sat on my knees. Cameron unhooked himself from my back and copied my position.

He stretched his tiny hands out and placed them on the tiles. "Mommy, if you can hear me. Please know that I love you. Aunt Carolyn talks about you all the time. Sometimes I catch daddy crying in the middle of the night looking at a picture of you - you're really pretty and I hope I make you proud." Cam said forgetting that I am sitting beside him. "We went to your favorite place today and I ate a whole burger by myself! We both you flowers mommy. I hope you like them."

With that statement, I placed the Roses at the foot of her grave. I placed a gentle kiss on the tile and whispered that I love her.

We left the cemetery with big smiles on our faces and returned to the car. "Can we go home dad? I'm beat."

I chuckled at Cam and secured his seatbelt. "Let's go home."
