The zen master posed a question to the laundryman of the monastery.

"Is the washing machine used as much as you use it, or do you use it more than you use it?"

The man looked queerly at the master.

"What type of dumb question is that?" he thought to himself.

"Of course, it is used by me as much as l use it, no more, no less," he replied.

The master smiled,

"You are using it right now too, my friend",

and he left without waiting for another reply.

The man then understood that if he uses it without thinking, it is using itself for him, but if keeps his mind on the usage, he is using it for it, so he becomes aware of problems, instead of letting them be missed.

The clothes were washed after that without some stains still being left on them.

The master had solved the dirty laundry problem of the monastery.

Before this, some of the robes of the monks had been left with some stain marks still on them
