Chapter 19, The Enemies Mind

"Shikone," Karin Acknowledges.

Shikone's stare is cold and deadly, "Who are you?"

"Someone who wants to help you." Karin replies, and despite everything that Shikone has done, it was still the truth. Shikone is lost, and she is angry, and no one else but Karin can feel her pain, no one else can understand why she would do what she has done, no one else can help her.

Shikone laughs, just the mere thought of someone, especially a Soul Reaper wanting to help them was simply just laughable to her.

Her face twists into a nasty scowl as she responds with, "You don't want to help! Your kind only wants to destroy, nothing more! That is all they have ever done, and all they will ever do. They see anything that they cannot control as wrong."

Karin stares at her, face impassive, "I can do nothing, or say nothing to justify their actions, nor am I responsible for their past mistakes." Karin says, "they have hurt you, but you are the one who let them break you! You let them get into your head and your heart, and you were the one who let them make you into the monster they were so afraid you would become!"

Shikone flash steps right in front if Karin in an instant, her eyes a blazing fury.

"I did no such thing!"

"You did." Karin stands firm, "you got scared, you let that fear overtake you, and in doing so you slaughtered every last one of your own people for the sake of revenge. Because you thought you wouldn't be able to save them, to free the like you wanted, so you chose to end their suffering by killing them, not knowing that you were only causing them more pain."

"I saved them! I freed them!" Shikone was furious, her cold eyes raging with fire.

Karin shakes her head, Shikone still could not see the damage that she had caused; "Making them sacrifices and trapping them inside your experimental hollows is not freedom!" Karin as angry now, she wondered how Shikone could be so blind? How she didn't see the pain, the suffering, the agony that she has caused her people?

'Fear,' Shionnei's voice resonated inside her head, 'She was afraid, she still is, that's why she still can't see it.'

Karin locks eyes with Shikone, "you may think that you have given them freedom, but you have not felt their pain."

Shikone charges, weapon drawn and a fiery furry I her eyes, "They are my people! Their pain is my pain!"

Karin dodges out of the way quickly before spinning around in a circle as their blades clash with a fury so great that with each brush of steel against steel the air itself resonates in the wake of their wrath.

"Open your eyes Shikone! Look at what you have done, at what you are doing! I know that you are angry, that you have been hurt, that you have suffered, that you want revenge. But here is what I believe..." Karin pauses, jumping back and holding Shionnei up in the air as Arrows of fire rain down upon Shikone who darts out of the way of every single one of them in a frenzied haze. "I believe that you are better than the ones who have hurt you, that you are better than this." Karin continues, "Because if all you do is seek revenge, then what makes you better than the Soul Reapers? What makes you better than the vey people who created you and casted you aside like trash if you hurt them back?!"

When the smoke and dust clears, Shikone stands, pointing her sword at Karin, "what would you know about pain or suffering? You are only a novice, you have not felt pain, or experienced fear, you have not suffered! So what would you know?"

Karin and Shikone lock eyes, both unyielding and passionate in their beliefs.

"I know more than you would think actually," Karin says to her, "I am always afraid Shikone, I just don't let that fear control my actions, because if I did, then I could loose the very people I'm trying to protect. You tell me that I have not felt pain, or have not known suffering, but I feel everyone's pain, even yours, I have constant voices, the constant thoughts of everyone around me inside my head and I can do nothing to stop them, and to me that is my burden, my suffering. Not only that, but I have been inside your head, I have experienced your agony, your suffering, I have seen it and I have felt it." Karin's voice rings out loud and passionate, filled with determination.

"Master!" Allekata jumps in between them, "Let me take care of this weakling, don't waste your energy on this one."

Shikone stares at her for only a moment before replying, "very well then, I'll handle the orange haired boy, he seems like the strongest from what I can see." With that Shikone flash steps up to the sky where she immediately attacks Ichigo, blasting him back as he glares daggers at her, his sword pointed her direction.

Karin looks at Allekata, "you do realize that she is so far gone that if you were to die she would only be disappointed and nothing more, she would not care."

"You shut the hell up!" Allekata Charges forward weapon drawn and at the ready while Karin points Shionnei at her, "Singe Shionnei!"

Arrows made of fire swirl in rapid succession around Allekata, stopping her in her tracks as she looks around her with wide eyes. She takes her blade to one of the arrows only to be blasted back into another one of them to be ricocheted back and forth for a moment before Allekata quickly jumps up landing back on her feet in the middle of the circle.

Karin smirks, "Shionnei's technique is fire arrows, but I can do anything I want with them, I just have to think of it."

"What is this?" Allekata growls while trying to find a way she can get through.

"The same thing that Shikone is doing to you and the rest of her people, trapping you in a cage like a bird and refusing to let you fly."

"What does that even mean?"

Karin steps forward, placing her hand against one of the arrows before grabbing hold of it and closing her eyes as she casually walks into the flaming circle of arrows. When Karin opens her eyes she is standing right in front of a wide eyed Allekata, and without even blinking she takes the flaming arrow in her hand and stabs it straight into Allekata's heart.

The girl gasps for air, "wha...Why?"

"You'll soon see, we both will." Karin answers pulling the arrow out of Allekata and stabbing her own heart with it as it gets absorbed into her body.

Karin grabs Allekata's hands, gripping them tightly in her own and closing her eyes, leaving Allekata with no choice but to mirror what she does. Karin had full control and she was going to show Allekata the truth.

They both appear in soul form in nothing but a black void, both weaponless, Shionnei in her shikai form as a red ribbon and securely wrapped around Karin's wrist.

"Where are we?" Allekata glares at her, unable to even move on her own.

"Nowhere right now. Just give it a minute." And with a snap of her fingers the black void crumbles to ash revealing Allekata's home world where she was born.

"What is this?"

"The day all of the men in your world were slaughtered, the day the Soul Reapers killed your father." Karin replies.

"Why would you show me this if you want me on your side." The girl scoffs.

"I want you to know the entire truth, all of it, and then what side you choose will be your own."

"How do you know any of this? You weren't there!"

Karin shrugs, "I know plenty of things that I should not, this was just a parting gift from Jillianna. No be silent and watch, you must see, you must listen, and you must feel."
