"SERKAN?" SELIN SOUGHT INVITATION as she stood by the open doors to his office.
"Yes, Selin?" asked Serkan, his eyes glued to his laptop.
Selin bit back a bitter smile, even as his friend she failed to gather his full attention. Unlike his fiancé who appeared to make him act out of love, impulsiveness and jealousy.
"I need to talk to you about something important," she prompted, her lips pressed into a thin line as she walked towards him.
"What about?" He asked with a frown, typing away.
"It's Eda," she replied, dropping the file in her hands on the table.
"What about Eda?" Serkan asked her, finally giving her his full attention, and the worry in his eyes killed her.
"She's not who you think she is, Serkan."
The frown on Serkan's face deepened.
"What do you mean she's not who I think I am?" he replied, his voice turning hard. But it surprised Selin that the anger was directed at her.
"I don't mean to offend anyone Serkan, but I would think it's important for you to know that your fiancé is not who she says she is!" argued Selin.
"Selin," said Serkan warningly, "stop talking in riddles."
"Just look at the file Serkan, I had a private investigator look into her and it's quite -- shocking."
Serkan eyed the folder with interest but something inside of him told him that he should not look. That he should not pry into Eda's past without her consent.
Selin let out a laugh of disbelief at his hesitation.
"Are you being serious?" She asked scornfully. "What kind of spell does she have you under that you are not even willing to break confidentiality for your own safety?"
"Selin..." Serkan warned.
"Hayir," Selin denied, "Hayir. It's enough. The woman has trapped you in a web of lies Serkan, she's not who she says she is. You're not going to look at the file? Fine. I'll tell you."
"Selin..." Serkan clenched his jaw.
"She's not a Yildiz."
Serkan froze in mid-action.
"What?" He asked, baffled.
"She's not a Yildiz. She never was and never will be. The girl is tied to Mardin, Serkan, specifically, she's a descendant of Ayoğlu family." Selin's voice rose with every word she spoke.
"Ayoğlu?" Serkan asked loudly, annoyed. "Who is the Ayoğlu family and why the hell does it matter?"
"You were always bad at History," Selin rolled her eyes. "Ayoğlu as in the House of Ay. Ay Sultans, Serkan, the Imperial family."
"Bi dakka, bi dakka," Serkan froze, holding out his hand in front as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Are you telling me that my fiancé is royalty?" The disbelief in his voice would have been comical if she had not been so appalled by how little he knew about her.
"I'm shocked. I don't understand how you can be marrying this woman without knowing anything about her, Serkan! Yes, she's a descendant. But she's disowned. Her parents were disowned as her father married his assistant. And when Eda was eight years old, her parents were assassinated. Assassinated, Serkan, assassinated but it was covered up as some sort of freak accident in the media. Her free-spirited aunt took custody of her and changed their last name to Yildiz for protection before they moved to Istanbul. To be with her could be dangerous for you and your family and I---"
