I kicked my shoes off letting out a frustrated groan. I was happy to finally be home from work, but stress weighed on me. Coming home to the love of my life was supposed to be a beautiful and exciting thing, but lately it's become dreadful.
Mason and I have been together for four years, and today just so happened to be our anniversary. The fact that he didn't remember deeply hurt and angered me. Our relationship was changing right before my eyes and I didn't like it one bit. We used to be so in love, and now I feel like he can't even bear to look at me. He finally got a job as a police officer, and since then he's been too busy for me.
I took a deep breath to hold back the tears.
I hung my keys on the key hook, and sat my purse on the counter. The house looked vacant but Mason's car was parked outside, so I assumed he was asleep.
I made my way to our bedroom. Completely shocked at the view in front of me.
"Mason! I can't believe you did this!"
"It's our anniversary baby, I had to go all out for my favorite girl."
I looked at our room, covered in balloons and flowers.
"I thought you forgot" I said as a few tears fell
"I could never forget about the happiest day of my life. I just wanted to surprise you baby." he said, handing me a gift bag.
I cupped his face and placed a kiss on his lips. "I love you so much baby."
"I love you too, more than anything in the world. Trinity, you don't know how lucky I am to have you in my life."
I smiled, "I'm the lucky one"
"Are you going to open your gift?" he asked, tucking a stand of hair behind my ear.
"I want you to open yours first." I said, walking over to the closet, to retrieve the gift I brought him.
He smiled as I handed him the gift. "Thank you baby"
"You didn't even open it"
"I know, but I'm still grateful regardless."
I watched impatiently as he opened his gift.
"No fucking way!" he gasped "You brought me a Gucci watch?"
"You've been talking about it for months, so I decided to get it for you."
