'Maya Get your Butt up before your late!'
I heard Momma stomping up the stairs before she reached my room.
5 more minutes Momma, I'm so tired!
You wouldn't be tired if you weren't up night drawin' She answers.
When I finish cookin you better be up Momma Adds.
Julius pops his head in, Get up ugly, you gotta put yo makeup on!
Shut UP!! I threw my pillow at him, Ugh why can't anyone leave me alone?
I looked in the mirror, I did look like a mess, It took about 10 minutes to pick out the right outfit, What should I wear, Vans? Knockoff Nike? Jeans? Shorts? Crop Top? Basic? I looked up some cute outfits and picked one, Google knows everything.
I looked at the mess on top of my head, What was I gonna do with it? Conrow's? Braids?
I decided on a back bun, Popped some lipgloss on,and stared at my reflection.
"MAYA GET DOWN HERE OR YOUR GONNA BE LATE" Momma Screamed
I decided not to test her patience and ran downstairs.
Momma handed me a lunch, 'Momma! I can't be seen with lunches! I ain't white!!'
Momma sighed then handed me some money, It doesn't matter what your seen with as long as you eat, And don't say ain't, You don't live in the Ghetto.
I wondered, what is the 'Ghetto' The girls at my old school used to say 'All Y'all Black Girls are Ghetto'
It didn't matter, I waved goodbye and got on the bus with my brother.
Julius and I made eye contact, 'Hey guy's, this is my annoying ass sister Maya'
There was a lot of boy's and about 5 girls, They looked at me up and down, Finally one of them said Wassup girl, My name's Anayah, You look nice! What grade you going to?
Thanks, I said, I'm going into 7th grade.
How come you weren't here for 6th grade? A boy with Nike's On asked
I didn't know what to say, I glanced at Julius who then replied to him and said none of your business 'Ugly-Quan'
Julius, I'm gonna kick you- They went onto arguing, I looked around the bus.
There was a section of white kids, a section of Hispanics, and what looked like Asians, I realized the Black's were in the back, and the whites were in the front. It's the same I thought.
I checked myself one more time, Hopefully I don't screw up anything.
