Lost and Found

It was a rainy day— the sky was dark, and the streets were wet. As time went on, the rain only seemed to come down harder and harder. As if it were a concerned person urging everyone to take shelter. And they were listening.

The sidewalk crowded with people rushing to get inside, pushing, shoving, shouting insults to the little girl who couldn't care less about the weather.

She just walked, head down, a hood on, taking her time getting to her destination.

Only

She didn't have one.

She had nowhere to go, no clear goal in sight. So she just walked, and walked, and walked until she found an abandoned house that was just barely holding itself up. But she didn't care. She just wanted to get out of the rain that just seemed to get worse by the second.

She walked up to the house, despite her gut telling her not to.

She kicked the door open, despite her gut telling her not to.

She walked inside and remained there, despite her gut telling her not to.

The little girl looked around for somewhere to rest her head for the night. Hopefully, she'd be allowed back home the next morning.

She came from a noble family. And with money comes power. And with power comes greed. And because of her parents' desire, they neglected their only daughter.

She'd seen how other parents treat their kids. She wanted to have that kind of relationship with her mother and father. But nothing would get their attention. She tried interrupting them during business calls, but she would just get dragged away by the nanny. She even put on her mom's makeup and jewelry. But she was ignored. Yesterday her mom came home with a priceless artifact that was worth a number she didn't even know existed. In one more attempt to get her parent's attention, she threw the box containing the artifact out of the third story window to their mansion. But money means nothing when you've never experienced true love-- true happiness.

Her father smacked her in the face while her mom nursed the box. Her father joined her mother as they inspected the box and the shattered artifact inside.

She was glad to finally be acknowledged by her parents, but it wasn't in the way she expected. But it didn't matter. That was the first time her parents noticed her existence since she was born. And it was enough for her.

But her dad didn't think so.

"Get the hell out of my house!" was the first and last thing her father had ever said to her as he rubbed his sobbing wife's back reassuringly.

She did as she was told and left.

And that's what led us here.

The little girl continues to look around for some kind of pillow or blanket when she hears the creaky old building begin to shift due to the rain and wind.

She was always one to listen to her gut-- until today. She was in desperate need of somewhere to stay, and this was the only place she could find in such a wealthy part of town.

The big, dusty house began to crumble. The little girl scrambled to get out of the big house, but her efforts were fruitless.

As she neared the doorway, a chunk of the ceiling fell on her, killing her instantly.

The poor little girl didn't stand a chance.

-which is why she was given another chance.

She showed so much potential. She was smart, ambitious, strong, brave—just a case of being born in the wrong place and wrong time.

The daughter of a strong hero and an even stronger villain— she was destined for greatness.

She was placed in a wide field of grass and a few trees here and there.

The distant sound of horse hooves hitting the ground filled the air. The occasional screams of a grown man ordering soldiers were heard along with the war cries of said soldiers as they take down titan after titan.

The little girl lay naked under a tree, unconscious and cold.

A lone soldier who got pushed away from his group notices the small girl and approaches her, thinking it was one of his fellow soldiers. But upon further inspection, he realizes that a child is naked under a tree— not to mention outside of the walls.

He retrieves a purple flare from his bag before loading it and firing it in the air to signal that there was an emergency. The man notices her shivering and takes off his green scouts hood and places it around the girl as he waits for backup and further instruction.

A few minutes later, another soldier shows up, and the scout that found our heroine explains the situation to him.

They agree that they can't just leave a child out in the open as an easy target for titans and decide to bring her back with them.

They get back on their horses to meet up with their comrades again. Just as he placed the little girl in front of him on his horse, the soldiers heard a loud boom and looked up to see a yellow flare shooting through the sky.

He places the hood over her head and kicks his horse slightly to get it going.

They ride back to the wall in silence. There were a few questions as to who was riding with the soldier, but he simply responded with, "I'll explain everything once we're back inside the walls," and no one else questioned him.

Once back at headquarters, the soldier explains everything again. Some were confused; some were concerned. But most of all, they were cautious.

A random little girl, who had no way of getting outside of the wall, was found out under a tree. Not to mention, she was bare without a single article of clothing in sight.

She was comatose and still managing to survive in titan country. Surely they would have found her by the time the soldiers arrived. She should have been dead long before anyone came to her rescue. Yet here we are.

They decide to hand her over to the military police in hopes that they'll know what to do with her. Maybe they can find her a stable home in the interior. None of the scouts have the right lifestyles to raise a child.

They all agree and bring her to the interior in a casual shirt and pair of lounging pants.

A day later, she finally stirs awake and immediately goes through questioning.

She tells them she doesn't remember anything besides her name and age.

The commander of the Military Police takes a seat next to the bed she was laying on and takes her hand in his.

She tenses at the contact but quickly relaxes as he squeezes her hand, a soft smile plastered on his face.

He tells her his name and a little bit about himself, like his title and the meaning of it and who the military police were and who were the people that found her.

She visibly relaxes the longer he goes on about random subjects.

"Oh, I've just been talking forever. Why don't you tell me what you remember about yourself?"

She hesitates for a moment before looking into his eyes and saying,

"My name is Y/N L/N, and I'm 12 years old."
