But it was strange...

~Vylad's P.O.V~

It's been about 3 weeks since Zane came home. He is supposed to be going back to school on Thursday with Garroth and I, however I'm not sure how Zane will take it. After all, we never told him how he ended up in the hospital... He seems to be getting anxious....

I checked the time. 1:30 a.m.
Ugh I been trying to fall asleep since 10..
Maybe a glass of water will help...

I slowly opened my door and looked around. I saw a faint light coming from the kitchen...
It's just the nightlight..
The rest of the house was dark, other than the moonlight shining through the hallway window. I could see it shining onto the bedroom doors. I slowly walked to the top of the staircase quietly shutting my door behind me.

I creeped down about halfway down the stairs when I heard faint voices talking. I walked down 2 more steps and listened closer.

"Are you sure about sending him back there?"  I heard my dad say...

"Of course not Garte..." I heard my mother's voice shakily reply.

"We could always homeschool him..."

"N-no... He had bad social skill enough. Homeschooling him would just make it worse."

"I don't want it happening to him again. There are sick people in that school, Zianna."

"He has Garroth and Vylad. They'll keep him safe... I'm sure of it."

"But that doesn't mean they can-"

"Please... Please don't make him stay here all the time..."

"Fine. But if it happens again we are trying homeschool, okay?"

"Okay..."

After a few extra seconds of waiting to see if they'll say anything else about Zane, I quietly ran back upstairs, and creaked open the door in to Garroth's room.
"Garroth?" I whispered hoping he was awake.
"Yeah, Pea?" I heard Garroth whisper back.
Thank Irene he's awake...

"Did I wake you up?" I said taking a few steps into the room holding on to the edge of the door.
"Nah, I been up for a while now..."
He said as he turned on his lamp and sat up on his bed.
I shut the door quietly and said, "Can I talk to you?" I said holding myself.

Garroth then pulled up the corner of his comforter, telling me to come over with him. "Of course" he said.

I speed-walked over to his bed, trying not to let our parents hear us awake, and crawled into bed with him as he wrapped the blanket over me.
I cuddled in the warmth as Garroth asked, "What's wrong baby brother? Did you have a bad dream?" He asked as he ruffled my hair.
"No... I heard mom and dad talking about Zane..." I looked up at him and watched his expression change to a more serious look and nodded to me letting me know he was listening.

"Dad wants to homeschool Zane because he's worried 'it' will happen again...."
Garroth wrapped his arm around me and said,
"He doesn't trust us to protect him...?"
I shrugged. "I guess not..."
I looked at him and saw him looking down at the covers.
"Momma said that she's sure we would though..." I tried reassuring him.

"What if...." He started saying and took a breath. I gestured him to continue.
"What if I can't though... What if he gets hurt..."

I looked at him and saw tears beginning to spring in his eyes.
"Then I or we will."
He looked at me and sighed.
"This isn't your job, Vylad. You shouldn't have to worry about it." He said looking at me straight in the eye.
"But he's my brother too..." I whimpered out.
