The Passionate Desire and Hate (Fire & ice)

CHAPTER 1

It was already 12:50 AM when Pearce came back home from work. She noticed the street was crowded with people, which was unusual for that place. From children to aged people were busting crackers. They all seemed joyful and smiling, as if they were celebrating some kind of festival. Then she realized it was the New Year, so that everyone was in a cheerful mood and had an ecstatic smile on their faces. And that's the reason why she was late today. Before anyone could notice her, she made a way out from the crowd and walked away from that place.

She was living in an old apartment where she rented a modest flat which was organized, with a small living hall, kitchen and a single bedroom with an attached bathroom in it.

After taking a hot shower, she got dressed in a comfortable nightwear. By the time it was already 1:30 in the morning. She walked into the kitchen and prepares a hot coffee for herself.

Gazing at the starry night standing on the balcony while sipping coffee. She remembered that her mother had called her "A WHILE AGO". But at that time she was so busy, she couldn't attend her mother's call. Pearce reached for her phone, which was on the bed to call her mom. But she forgot that it was already 2:00 in the morning. But to her surprise her mother receives the call on 3rd ring and before Pearce could say anything her mother started the conversation by wishing her, "Happy New Year dear!"

On hearing that Pearce felt elated.
At least there is someone who is waiting for her just to wish the 'New year'. But she felt somewhat bad and her heart was in pain, knowing that her mother was awakened late at night because of her.

With concern in her voice, she asked her mother, "Mom, why are you still awake”?

And for that her mother replied, “How can I sleep in peace, when I know my daughter is working so hard even today where every one is joyful and spending time with their loved ones, and celebrating the New Year. But my daughter is so engrossed in her work. That she doesn't even remember its New Year celebration day. And you were expecting me to slumber without thinking about you, my child?” Saying this, Pearce's mother sobbed.

After knowing how much her mother cares for her, Pearce couldn’t control the tears which rolled down her cheek and blamed herself for being the reason for mother’s concern.

Pearce was sobbing already, because of the guilt she felt. She couldn't utter a word and just wished her mom back and said, "Mom I’ll sleep now as I got to leave early for tomorrow's work. Talk to you later, good night”. And she hung the call up.

Soon after, Pearce's phone rang. When she glanced at the screen, it was her sister Sahara calling, but Pearce wasn't in a state of mind to pick up the call and have a conversation with her. Ignoring the phone call, she walks back to the balcony.

This time she felt cold. Hugging herself she faced up at the sky, and started talking to the sky as if the stars and moon were listening to her.

“Why is my world so miserable, why does this always happen to me where I hurt everybody who loves me and care for me? Should I quit this life and join you all there?

Whenever Pearce is worried or sad, she likes to stand on her balcony staring at the dark sky which is always filled with stars. Because she feels some kind of special connection with them.

Moma once said, “There is someone who comes into our way of life and joins the journey with us. The someone is made for me to make the journey of life easy and turn our lives into something meaningful.” But it was just an enormous lie. I'm still waiting for that someone with whom I can share everything. All my worries, sorrows and happiness. But there is no such one. Everyone is fake and selfish here.

She was so deep in conversation with the stars. She broke down with tears and sat there covering her face with her hands. Among these, a shooting star appears in the sky which shows that the prayer she made unknowingly (for someone  with whom she can live her rest of life). will be fulfilled soon.
