As the boys left teht diner, they decided the hijack a car to take to Denver. Coincidentally, Craig just happened to know how to hot wire. After having murdered someone, other crimes felt fairly easy. Once they were in the car, and Craig was hot wiring the car, Kenny decided then would be a decent to ask how the hell he knew how to hotwire a car.
"How do you know how to hotwire a car?"
"Practice. I know how to do a lot of things. Build a dam, fix a bike, make yogurt."
The car started, and Kenny grinned at Craig.
"My uncle's gonna love you."
The ride started off great. The radio in the car was broken, and only had one disk, with one track that didn't skip. At first, it was great. It was a good song, but after a few hours of listening to it on loop, its appeal eventually palled. After a few more plays, Kenny finally snapped and pulled the disk out, chucking it to the backseat.
They didn't talk for a while. Mainly, they just stared off. Kenny turned to Craig, examining him for a minute. Craig took a glance at Kenny, but moved his focus back to the road.
"Do you feel bad about what we did? About the man?"
Craig was a bit delighted that Kenny had started using "we" in relation to the incident.
"No. He was gonna hurt you."
"That's right. And those girls in the pictures. We did the world a favor! If I was the police, I'd give us medals or something. They probably will."
("Future Craig here, they didn't.")
The drive proved to be a long one, and Kenny soon fell asleep. Craig, however, managed to stay up all night with little to no problem. His mind was occupied with his new feelings about Kenny. He felt different around him now, like he's been holding back his whole life, and now he's finally opened his eyes. Kenny had come back for him, and they were really doing something. Going somewhere. Together. That was the most satisfying feeling ever.
At about 7 AM, the gas started to get low. Craig shook Kenny awake, so they could get more. They stopped at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, and made a plan. Kenny turned to Craig and put on some sunglasses. Craig then said,
"Okay, you fill up the gas, only a little bit. Then, hop back in and we'll make our way to Denver."
Kenny stared at Craig as he spoke, with a goofy grin plastered on his face.
"What?" Craig asked, smiling a bit.
"You've really come out of your shell, ya know?"
Craig chuckled. Kenny continued,
"It's really hot."
Kenny pounced on Craig, capturing his lips, and kissing him passionately. From inside the gas station, an older lady, about mid 40s, watched them in disgust.
"Fucking homos. They're everywhere."
Once Kenny gained the willpower to pull away, he exited the car, and stealthily made his way to the gas pump. The lady watched as the blonde pulled the gas pump over to the other side of the car, since Craig had accidently parked the wrong way. The lady found these two a bit suspicious, and decided to try and find out what they were up to. She left the store and walked up to Kenny, who was minding his business.
"Morning!"
"Hey."
"Need some help?"
"No thanks."
