Running.
Running.
Trees wiz past my head as I run as fast as I could out of those woods. I felt like this was a never-ending battle: me, running every night for as long as I could remember any of my dreams. They have always felt so real too, as though I could reach out and actually touch a tree, actually touch and feel one of those… creatures that are chasing me.
“She went over there!”
The shouts were getting closer, but that can’t be. I had a hefty head start from them. I’m the top runner at school, how could they be catching up? They were still dumbfounded that I denied them while we took off.
“Leda! Hurry up! They are getting closer, we have to cross the river!”
Jed was right beside me, probably having the same thought as I: We have got to get out of their territory.
Jed, I found him one night in my dreams, and he was always there when I came back to them too. He, along with his brother Chad, had been out hunting when I came across one of their traps, most unfortunate for me – rather amusing for them.
Even though they looked alike, they are both vastly different from each other. Jed will jump in at any moment as the hero, and Chad will only act when he needs to. Jed is more caring and understanding, while Chad is snarky and quick to temper. The list is almost endless with these two – but they sure are fun to be around.
Both Jed and Chad are at least a head taller than me, with visibly bulky muscles, straight pitch black hair and a deep tan; in fact the only real difference was their eyes and nose structure. Jed had a strong straight nose with heavy set silver eyes, while Chad had a smaller, slightly crooked nose with heavy set violet eyes.
Compared to me, they looked like Gods. With my 5’7 height, mid-back platinum blonde, almost silver, hair and my strong facial structures that, as some say, give me an aura of authority, feels masculine to me. I would have to say that I feel odd in every sense, right down to my un-usual vibrant green eyes.
Snapping me out of my trance I heard the sounds of the rushing river.
But that’s not right! Just yesterday it was nothing more than a tiny stream of water, barley enough for an animal to lick any water up.
“We have to lose them before we try to cross,” I yell to Jed and Chad. “Otherwise we may find ourselves with an arrow in the back before we can even try.”
As though an unspoken understanding, Jed went right, I went left and Chad stood his ground – him being the better fighter of us.
We needed to split them up, get them either alone or few enough to take. That or attempt to lose them, but with those noses, I doubt it would be possible.
I kept running till I was at least a good mile away from Chad, and a good two miles away from Jed. They were after me, if worst comes to worst, I would rather they be safe left alone than killed. I spun around expecting them to be hot on my trail, right behind me, but I saw nothing.
I heard nothing.
Surely they have not lost their touch.
It is impossible; they were trained for these things.
Snap!
I whirled around. The sound came from a snapping twig behind me, but I couldn’t see anything.
Crudders! What is going on! Where are they? They should be after me, not Jed or Chad, it was me they were after… weren’t they?
Snap!
