All I ever wanted was acceptance, and since I was the runt in the family, I didn't always get that. I was often ignored, just so my older brother could be in the spotlight. Ever since my mother died, it only got worse. Now both of my parents are dead, and my brother and I were left to fend for ourselves. Even though my brother wasn't perfect and inhabited some of our father's harsh traits, he was still somewhat of a good brother. "Aspen, you're up." I was snapped out of my thoughts when I looked up to see the owner of the voice. Neiman. He was a male human and the leader of a group of bounty hunters called the Kestral Fighters. He was pretty tall, me being only able to reach his shoulder, and quite intimidating. My brother, Daikon, is also apart of the Kestral Fighters, as a scout. I've always wanted to be in the elite bounty group.
"Okay," I replied and made my way to the shooting range. I took a deep breath as I took my sniper off of the cold metal weapon rack. "Good luck, sister." Daikon patted my back, the rough cuts burning slightly from the contact. I gave him a brief nod before I stepped over to the platform that I was supposed to be shooting the targets.
I took in a deep breath as the fast targets started moving around on the wall. I can do this. I lowered myself so I was eye level with the scope and shot my first target. It was higher than all of the others but much slower. DING. The bullet hit the red circle that was in the middle of the target. The target board fell over onto the rough stone underneath it. Soon enough, she reached the last target board. If she didn't shoot this final target, she would have to be left behind by her brother. I closed my eyes before I pulled the trigger, and when I did, I heard a ding. I opened my eyes to see all of the targets gone. I heard cheers as I turned to face the Kestral Fighters. I saw Neimon's hand up. Everyone stopped talking.
I slightly cocked my head, confused as to what was going to happen. I took out all of the targets. Was I going to be punished? All of the Kestral Fighter's had a worried expression plastered onto their faces. My brother looked the most afraid. Neiman's hand was still up as he was walking over to me. I wanted to remain calm and not flinch, but if you were getting punished, that was inevitable. I closed my eyes only to feel a rough hand on my shoulder. "Welcome, Aspen, to the Kestral Fighters."
"I see them," I stated into the comlink, my voice somewhat hoarse due to my lack of sleep. "Take the shot once the target reaches the alley." My brother's voice ringed through the communication device. I made sure my comlink was still on and aimed at the target. They were a male Togruta, and their head tails were yellow and blue, reaching their elbows. I put my finger on the trigger, the scope following the Togruta's head as they reached the alley. "Target dead." I cringed as I heard a loud thud from the other side of the comlink. Her brother looked up at the building she was on and gave her a quick nod before dragging the dead body into the dark alleyway.
