Going to the park was an enjoyment for many kids. Unfortunately, for little Kim Taehyung, it was a task. A big one at that. He was a naive little six-year-old, thinking this was normal. All children learn about the characteristics of the animals they pass by.
His father pointed at all the small critters and soft animals passing them by, naming their needs and the way they live. Taehyung barely remembered most of the stuff. He tended to keep in mind the names of the animals and the way they looked.
He observed the woman playing with her dog. A brown labradoodle, Taehyung noted in his head as he looked at the dog's features. The woman looked so happy as she rubs the dog's neck.
"I love you," says the woman in a weird cute voice, almost the way people spoke to Taehyung when he was three and had chubby cheeks. She continues, "yes, I do. I love you very much." She then kisses the dog and little Taehyung notices the man looking at her. He didn't understand the look the man was giving her. He'd never seen it before, but for some reason, it brought a smile to his face.
As they walked closer to the bench, Taehyung noticed the man lean closer to the woman. Taehyung grew a little scared, he'd seen his father lean towards his mother like that when he was angry. This man didn't look angry, though. That thought didn't ease Taehyungs mind in the slightest. Suddenly the man spoke, "And, what about me?" He smiled and the woman looked over at him and pecked his lips. This shocked Taehyung, he didn't expect that. That's not how it usually plays out.
"I love you," she pecks his lips again, "the most." The man smiles at her while looking into her eyes. Taehyung doesn't understand any of this. Love? What's that? How can there be something you love the most? I love pizza and burgers. I can't choose to like one more.
Taehyung silently walks with his parents still questioning what he just encountered. As they grow closer to their home, Taehyung pauses behind his parents staring at the beautiful bunny sitting by the hydrangea bush. Dwarf Hotot, he notes, a little confused as to why one is wandering near his home. He read about those cute bunnies with eyeliner in one of his books. His dad made sure he learned to read and write at a very young age and, he did learn fast.
He didn't ponder upon the bunny for too long. His earlier thoughts still bothering him. He slowly jogs over to his parents and tugs on his father's sleeve. With this, his father looks down, a little frustrated having to stop in his tracks from going into the house to do work. He's always working.
"What is it, kid?" Taehyung's father asks. Taehyung looks up with eyes full of curiosity and innocence.
"Daddy, what's love?" His father stiffens when he hears the question. As he looks passed Taehyung at the rustling bush, his eyes darkened into a fiery blackness.
