                                              CHAPTER FOUR: FIRST DANCE

A few weeks after our little theme park shindig, I sat on the carpeted ground in the music store, organizing CDs. The bell rang at the door as someone walked in, a sticky June breeze following them. "Welcome to Joplin Sound, can I help you find anything today?" I chime automatically. "Yeah, actually." I grin as Chris walks over to where I am on the floor. I look up at him. "I'm looking for a Jane Doe Caulder," he says.  I look up at him. "Dang it, you found me!" Chris pretends to look hurt as he helps me to my feet. "So what can I do you for? We have everything from All Time Low to ZZ Top. Haha, see what I did there? A to Z?" I say elbowly him repeatedly. "That was hilarious!" Chris say as he grasps his stomach and 'convulses with laughter'.

Chris straightens. "So you work here?" he askes. "Owned and run by your very own... Me!" I say proudly. 'Wow, that's impressive. You really love music, huh?" I nod. " But it's possible that I love sleeping more,"  I say sadly. "Ya tired?" asked Chris. "Yeah thanks to you!" I laugh. "Oh yeah... I forgot about that. Sorry," said Chris. "No it was fun. I'd never seen all the Saw movies before. But next week it's my turn! I am forcing you to watch She-beast and Horror Express with me! Mwahaha!" I reply, trying my best evil laugh.

Chris laughs and shakes his head. "Not to shabby, and you have a deal. Anything can be better than that movie we saw a couple months ago. What was it again?" asked Chris. I make a sound like ughh. "it was like the billionth remake of Nightmare on Elm Street." I say."That movie was aweful." Chris nodded in agreement. "Totally sucked." I laugh and sort through somemore CDs. "Anyway," said Chris. "You look pretty busy with... what is that?" he askes glaning at the CDs. "Mayday Parade and Metallica... some of the M's" I reply. "Oh right, thats rad." "Yeah," I agree shiftig the discs. "But ya know, not to busy. I'm closing at five. Wanna come over then?" I ask.  "Yeah sure, thanks! Wait, will there be coffee?" askes Chris skeptically. "There will most definately be coffee," I laugh. "Okay well I'll letcha get back to it." Chris heads for the door. "Alright, rad. See you later then!" I say smiling. "Bye Jane." "Bye Chris."  The bell rings again and the door whooshs open and then closes gently. I look over my shoulder. Jade, an employee of mine, has her jaw on the ground staring at the empty space Chris filled moments ago. "Friend of yours?" she askes awestruck. I smile and shake my head. "You could say that," I laugh. "Cool," is all she says.

I grab two mugs from the cabinett. My favorite robin's egg blue one and a green one that Chris had said he particularlly liked another time he came over. I poured my mug full of coffee. "Cream and sugar?" I shout to Chris. "Please!" replies Chris. I pour coffee into the green mug as well but leave some space for cream. I stir the mug and walk over to the couch. I hand Chris his coffee and plop down on his lap. "Bon apetiete," I say. I pause "Or well, Bon whatever the french word for coffee is." Chris shrugged. "Dunno, I took spanish in college." "Latin," I say.

"Okay, so explain to me again gow you're twenty but out of college," says Chris. "Because I'm twenty two and I just graduated last spring." "Well, I skipped 3rd grade and tenth grade so I was two years younger than everyone else," I say. Chris wrapped his brain the notion. "So your like, a genius and stuff?" he askes. I shake my head. "Smart as you average Joe I guess. Unless of course you mean smart-ass because I am super good at being sarcastic and bitchy," I laugh. Chris smiles and chuckles but then goes more serious, "I don't think you're a bitch." "You haven't seen me pissed," I argue. "Fair enough but I don't think there's anyway you could be a bitch," says Chris. I smile," Oh Christofer, you really do only see the good in everybody, don't you? Even when there is none." Chris shakes his head, "Jane Doe, there is nothing but good in you." "Pshaw, don't make me blush," I reply. "Tunage?" I ask. "That was totally dorky but cute none the less. Sure," said Chris. I blush at this but turn away so he doesn't see. Oh yeah, I'm supposed to turn on the music. Think Jane! He's just saying that, he's not interested! I walk over to the stereo and put in a Beatles album. "Hopefully this will tickle your fancy.," I say beebopping to "Come Together"  Chris nodds, "This tickles my fancy just fine." I set my now empty coffee mug down on the table. I sit in Chris's lap again. "You don't mind this do you? It's just, I'm  freezing and you're like a fucking heater," I say. "Mind?" repeats Chris, biting his lip. "Definately not. But I don't know how I feel about you using me for my body heat." I laugh at this. "And that totally came out wrong..."  I continue to laugh, harder. "It's... it's cool," I say between laughs.

I finally calm down. "If you done now," says Chris sarcastically. "Where is Lotty if you don't mind me asking."  " She out with the rest of our freakish friends I guess," I reply. Chris nods in his adorable way like "I'm Christofer Drew Ingle just cause I can be. And I'm a mother fucking sexy beast, so take that" sort of way.  The song switched to Hey Jude. "Best. Beatles song. EVER," said Chris. I laughed, "It's a good one." "No," Chris said, shaking his head. "It's the best one. Wanna dance?" he askes. My answer is imediate and hopefully not to obvious "Yeah!" I stand up and take his hands. We start dancing in that gooberish, arms lenght apart thing where we just sorta swing our arms back and forth. But after a minute I sort of looked at Christofer, And Christofer sort of looked at me. And suddenly I had my arms around his neck- whick was a bit of a reach for me, being 5"4 and him being 6 foot- and he had his arms around my waist. I smooshed my face into his shirt. He chuckled and I looked up at him. "What?" I asked. "Nothing just... I don't know, that tickled." I giggle at this. Wait giggle? Since when do I giggle? Since I started dancing with Christofer Drew Ingle, thats when.

"Oh," is all I say because this moment doesn't need words. It's to perfect. Plus there's no point in me ruining it with my dumb, awkward mouth. I put my head back in it's original place and we continue to dance. and we keep continuing to dance for I don't even know how long. I just wanted to freeze in that moment forever. I closed my eyes and listened to Chris's heart beat. I got so caught up in that, I didn't even here the door open. Caleb walks in holding a to-go box, the rest of the gang in tow. "Het guys we brought you some... oh," says Caleb. I abruptly move to turn off the music. Morgan, Vanessa, and Lottie come into the room. Vanessa gives me a smile like Oh, I know exactly what you guys were up to.

"What are you guys doing?" askes Hayden, eyebrows raised. "Dancing," I reply abruptly. "Dancing?" askes Vanessa, tapping her chin with her index finger. "Hmm, care to elaborate, Chris?" "What... ah... what? Oh, we were dancing," says Chris. Smooth. This was going to take some explaining...
