Chapter 12:  The sacred stones

"NO!!"

Drake leapt onto the demons back, wrestling him in an attempt to take back control of his body.  The landscape of his mind had become similar to a single , stone covered room with only Carnus and Drake occupying the space.

Carnus grabbed Drake and swung him over his shoulder slamming him onto the ground and knocking the wind out of him.

"I like how surprised you are that I would kill someone."  Carnus strolled around him as Drake struggled for air.  "I've killed so many that I don't even think about it anymore.  Kinda like breathing.  Shame too.  He seemed like a nice guy."

"You... killed him..."

Carnus shrugged.  "Yeah well, whatcha gonna do?"

Drake struggled to his hands and knees.  "I'm gonna kill you."

Carnus began shouting angrily.  "How?  I'm not really here!  Geez!  Use your brains for once!"  Drake felt pain radiating through his body when Carnus kicked him in the ribs. "I'm a demon.  Hells worst tormentor and you're surprised that I'm a killer?"  He kicked him again.  "That's what demons DO!  They kill, cause chaos and pain wherever they go." He took a moment to catch his breath in the middle of his rant.  "And As for me?"  He kicked Drake onto his back.  "I'm the worst one."

Drake curled into a ball, cradling his aching ribs and stomach.  Carnus shook his head, giving his back to the knight.  "Disappointing."

Drake rolled to his side.  "You... tricked me."

Carnus twisted his face in thought.  "Well, not really.  All I did was open your eyes to what was always there.  Never once did I lie or deceive."  Carnus smirked over his shoulder.  "Every choice was yours and yours alone."

Drake used the walls to pull himself up.  With Carnus' influence becoming stronger, Drake was getting weaker.  "So this is your plan?  Use my body to destroy Arendelle?"

Carnus let out a laugh as he turned back to Drake.  "Believe it or not, chaos isn't always accomplished by grand gestures.  Sometimes chaos just needs a single word to get the party started."  Carnus took a sniff of the air.  "Hm.  The snow queen isn't here.  And I was so looking forward to meeting her."

Terror gripped the knights heart, followed by rage.  "You stay away from her!  Her powers come from the heavens, she'll turn you into ash without thinking twice about it."

Carnus shrugged.  "Possibly.  But whether or not she has the guts to use them is another matter."  He was now inches from Drake's face.  "As for myself I won't hesitate to slide my knife along the flesh of her lovely neck," he grabbed Drake by the jaw and forced him to look into his eyes, "And when I watch the lights fade from those pretty blue eyes, I'll make sure you're around long enough to know the warmth of her blood on your hands."

Drake was now so horrified, so enraged, almost to the point of tears, he could only choke out one word.

"Why?"

Carnus waited a moment, licking his lips as if the answer was obvious.

"Why not?"

Kai, Lars and Olaf struggled to pull Anna off of the captain's body.  Covered in tears and blood she found herself held closely in Kai's arms.

"Drake?" Olaf called besides Anna's leg. "Why would you do that?"

"No Olaf," Anna growled, "that's not Drake."  She lifted herself away from Kai, wiping her nose and eyes.

Strangely, Drake was just standing there.  His eyes glazed over staring down at the ground.
