After the tour, they were led to the main hall, where all the older students where already seated for the opening ceremony.
It was a huge room, with a raised platform in front.

Once everyone was seated, a woman in an elegant forest green gown walked unto the platform.
"Welcome to the two hundred and seventy fourth opening ceremony of Royal Academy of Magyck."
There was a smattering of polite applause before the woman settled into a speech that to Zeo seemed to take forever.

She spends her time looking at other students, noticing that the other first years were dressed a lot flashier than the seniors, with their floor length gowns and precious stones. The third and fourth years wore lighter, flowy, knee length dresses, little or no jewellery, and had their hair pinned stylish behind their faces.

The other students immediately start mummuring excitedly to each other, making Zeo tune back in to what the woman was saying.

"Let's welcome Prince Matthew, crown prince of Lemuria, Prince Anthony and Princess Jade, Crown prince and princess of Kvenland, and finally, Princess Irene, princess of Arcadia, and fourth in line to the throne."

Zeo sat in shock as the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. She had never in her wildest dreams imagined that she would have a royal on her year, not to talk of having one as a roommate.

"And finally," the woman continued, "there has been a new feature added to the school program. Due to the generosity of our royal family, and other major benefactors, we have decided to bring in one scholarship student into the academy this year."

At this, there was a loud buzz in the hall as the whispers got louder.
Students in the academy traded gossip like a major form of currency, and form of gossip, no matter how unimportant, spread like wildfire. So the fact that none of the students had heard even a hint of this had so many of them in shock.

"Zeo Sherwood of Lake Lyon, please come forward."

When nobody stood up and the name was called a second time, the whispers started with a vengeance.

The students were wondering how someone could be so ungrateful as to ignore an excellent opportunity to attend the best magyck academy in the entire realm.

Rather than standing up, Zeo tried to make herself appear smaller in a bid to avoid attention.

They had probably made a mistake, she thought. She knew that she had not applied for any scholarship, and Cassandra would have informed her about filling in any application for her.

The dinner after that went on without any more incidents, and after that, they were sent back to their rooms.

Zero went back to her room, had a shower, got dressed, and went to bed. She fell asleep immediately her head hit the pillows and did not get up till morning.

The alarm roused Zeo out of her dreams. She glanced at the bed next to her room and saw that Jade was still asleep, so she decided to go for a run after confirming that she still had more than enough time before breakfast.

After an uneventful run, Zeo showered and dressed in skinny jeans, a sports bra, and a sheer long sleeved shirt. She toped it with her rhinestone studded three inch heels and a backpack for her notes and jacket.

Zoe's first class for the day was Languages and Cultures, and she was not sure what to expect.

The teacher stood in front of the class and introduced herself.
"Good morning everyone. I'm Lady Susan and I'll be the one taking you on this class. Our course work is quite heavy, but I trust that most of you have more than a little knowledge of different languages and cultures, and I don't expect to be held back by any of you."

The class went on with Zeo taking lots of notes. She had not expected to enjoy the class as much as she did, but she could also admit to herself that she was way behind her classmates, most of whom could speak over three languages.

The next class, 'History of Magyck', went the the same, and Zeo had to rush to the library to pick up a few books to catch up.

Lunch however, was a whole different ballgame. Since Zeo had taken breakfast earlier than the others, she was not aware of the cliques and heirachy that were made by the students of the school, so finding a place to seat was a problem.
She finally got seated with a bunch of other first years, who had not yet ventured out to make friends.

Zero was in her final class for the day, 'Magyckal Combat', and she was more than ready for the day to be over, when the teacher finally came into the class.

"Alright everyone. I'm Fabian, and I'm a new teacher. In fact, I only graduated three years ago from this academy, and I had to convince my parents that this job was safe, so try not to beat me up too much."

Everyone laughed, and the tension in the room became almost non existent.

"Today," Fabian continued, "we are going to start with introducing ourselves and stating our abilities, and after that, you're all showing me what you can do with said abilities. It's not just enough to state your abilities, you have to understand them, and also be able to use them to your maximum potential without overtaxing yourselves."

Everyone soon started introducing their selves, and their abilities.

Jade was a poison manipulator and a dream walker, and Chloe, the only other person Zeo had talked to, could astral project, teleport, and was psychometric.

"I'm Zeo Sherwood, and I'm a mild empath."
Zeo knew she had made a mistake as she heard snickers and low laughs rising from the students, but she could not take back her words.

Someone from the back stage whispered "Please don't kill me. I can tell you what you're feeling," and the class roared with laughter.

Even Fabian, their teacher, had a hard time covering up his amusement.

Cheeks blazing, Zeo ignored the laughter's and stares, and followed the rest of the students into the room next door. It was a small gym with mats all over the floor for sparring.

"When I call your name, you come forward and show me what you can do. You should know that this is a part of your tests, and you will get scored in how well you perform, so if you are thinking of holding back, I have a piece of advice for you. Don't."

Zeo stood at the back of the class, her back agains the wall. She was trying to thing of a course of action to take.

Well, she thought, the rules does not state that I must use my abilities. I just have to act like I normally do when I'm fighting in the underground.

A plan in mind, she smiled to herself and watched other people, memorising their techniques, and figuring out the best way to win against them in a fight.

When it got to her turn, Zeo walked to the mat with confidence. She ignored the looks she gets from her classmates and focuses on her breathing. After getting the signal to start, she jumps into an offensive pose, moving quickly and quietly, making it impossible for their teacher to get close enough to drain her of her energy.

With a few well aimed punches, she brings him down to his knees and before she can think twice about it delivers a blow hard enough to knock him out.
