CHAPTER FIVE
LESATH○●○●○
It was on Friday night that Eve's plans to babysit Devin were canceled when Hannah Ateara returned home early with a nasty cold. Eve was reluctant to go home when Mrs. Ateara promised her she could be well enough to watch over her youngest child. After some time, Eve gave up, and luckily her day was saved by Darcy.
Mrs. Ateara asked the two to drop off a pie to a friend of theirs.
That's how Eve found herself gazing out the window of the old van that Darcy was driving. Above them, the clouds were dark and threatening to pour. The forests still took up a majority of La Push as it did Forks and Eve could hear the muffled howls of wolves.
A smile graces her lips at the sound.
"You haven't met Billy have you?" Darcy brings up, her dark eyes darting from the road to the girl. "Billy Black?"
From what she could recall, she could remember Mrs. Ateara bring him up in conversation but otherwise, she didn't know him. She would soon, however, and she was delighted to meet him.
"Only from your mom," she finally answers. Her fingers retreat from where she sat on them to fix the ponytail that held her hair together. Darcy had cranked up the heat in the car making Eve sweat under her sweatpants and thermal. "You're making me feel like we're in Flordia with this type of heat."
Snorting, Darcy shakes her head. "Gosh. Wouldn't Florida be amazing right about now? I would do anything to get a small vacation away from here?"
This was a part where the two contrast. Darcy was the one who was always eager to travel; to skip states and to fantasize leaving La Push to visit the desert. However, Eve was the one to typical stay in areas she was familiar with. Her home was where she felt the safest in and stepping outside of Forks always left her feeling homesick.
"To get away from Devin?" She asks, imagining Devin annoying his older sister throughout the day.
Dark, thick locks dance as Darcy shakes her head. "Not just him," she reveals, turning the steering wheel. They parked on a gravel driveway that belonged to a quaint, frail home that looked like the size of a shed. The exterior was painted red that was chipping away the old, withered white that was underneath.
Two trucks were parked in front of them; one blue and the other a faded red.
From their spot in the car, Eve could hear a commotion in the car before the sound of Darcy opening her door made her do the same. The pie was held securely in Darcy's hands while in her mouth rested the keys to the vehicle.
It was an amusing sight to see. Seeing the smile on her face, Darcy shot her a dirty look.
The keys landed on the pie without damaging it to their surprise. "Yuck," Eve whispers while Darcy, with wide eyes, shoves the keys in her pocket. "Is Billy in there?" Eve refers to the garage.
"He'll most likely be inside. I think Jacob and that one girl are in there?"
Interested in that, Eve wanders to the garage with Darcy on her tail. Upon arrival, they spot to heads huddled together, their voices soft and full of light as the point to the bikes that rest in front of them.
One of the heads belonged to a boy with long, wavy, raven hair. Muscles adorned his russet skin and stretched the fabric of his jacket.
The other head belonged to a girl with dark brown hair. Her mouth was twisted in a grin as she listened to Jacob, but it vanished as she spots Eve and Darcy.
