Catherine's POV
Beep, beep, beep.
Darn, it's time to get up again.
Reaching out for my bedside table, I shut my alarm off and get out of bed, going through my morning routine as fast as I can, I put on a yellow shirt and black shorts, it's the only clean pair I own, quickly rushing into the 'kitchen' I start breakfast off, eggs and bacon, it's the only thing available, humming a song softly to myself, I continue cooking what I can."Cathy, Cathy!!" I hear my name and by the voice I know it's my little munchkin Victor, being the last child I try my best to give him the things he needs, we might be poor but I won't deprive my little brother of a childhood, hand pull on my shorts, looking down I find my giggling little nine year old staring at me, I squat down and pick him up balancing him on my hip. "Hello baby, how was your night?" I ask him softly while going back to cooking.
"I slept real well, I dreamt of mommy" he says and my heart clench In pain at the thought of our dead mother, she was always so jovial, She always found the good in everything. "Don't cry Cathy, mommy is in a better place now, she's up there with jesus". He says wiping away my tears then pointing at the ceiling, "Yeah, you're right, go get me Pablo and Betsy, breakfast is served". He quickly jumps out of my arms and towards their shared bedroom. Five minutes later and a clean looking Pablo comes into the 'kitchen'.
"Good morning Cathy" he says giving me a peck on the cheek, I ruffle his hair and give him his plate, one strip of bacon and a little amount of scrambled eggs, with a quick thank you, he dives into his food. "Where is Betsy? "I ask after handing Victor his meal, "She's not in the bedroom" Pablo says then goes back to his meal, I quickly run into her room and start searching, fuck, she's not here, I run into her bathroom and see a note on the counter I quickly pick it up and read it's contents.Dear Catherine, I know you're trying your best to be the motherly and fatherly figure for us all including yourself but I can't do it anymore, I can't have meals twice a day sometimes once, I'm fed up, I do love you and our siblings but not enough to live a pupper's life.
I have 'borrowed' some of your money to get me from LA to New York city, I will pay you back one day, so don't be upset, I don't know how I'll survive but don't worry about me, I'll be fine.Love Betsy.
I quickly run into my bedroom, reaching for the little box under my bed, to find it gone, fuck, that money was meant for victor's new books and groceries, I quickly run into my bathroom and reach for my other statch of cash, I bring it out from under the cabinet and clutch it to my chest, quickly wiping my tears, I run to the kitchen to find my little brothers.
"Pack up guys, we are leaving", I say to my brothers then rush back to my room, they know better than to argue with me when I'm that demanding.
"Aunt cat I'm finished packing" Victor says running into my room with a little carry on bag, he doesn't have much clothes so I'm sure it all fits, "OK go get Pablo", I say while taking his bag and rushing to the living room, oh God, I didn't go to work today, I have no phone to inform my boss, I hope she forgives me.
"Out, out, let's go" I say running out the house with the bags, rent is due anyways tomorrow so we are at no loss.
Rushing to the bus stop I take a sit with my siblings and wait for the bus. "Cathy, where are we going" Victor quickly asks while climbing onto my lap, I run my hand through his hair, while holding my Pablo's hand. "We are going to New York baby, to bring Betsy back" I say with a forced smile. He nods once and closes his eyes.
To New York.Authors note.
