When I was 16 I said goodbye to Busan, my belated parents and Ali.
Wheein's parents kept their promise to my eomma and appa and took care of all the paperwork so now Wheein's grandma was my legal guardian. It took some time but finally I was relieved to leave that shithole of an orphanage.
Only thing I will miss was Ali, my guardian angel.
I'll never forget the day I left him on the train station. We hugged awkwardly and then he gave me some money. I protested but he insisted I take it. He also gave me an envelope and told me to open it when I'm on the train.
We were both crying and waving to each other while the train was moving more and more away until Ali became only a little black dot in the station.
The letter in the envelope got me both sad and happy for the whole ride:
"Dear Kitty Kat,
My best friend, my sister I never had. Your tears hurt more than blades cutting me in half and your smile lights up my whole world.
Before I met you, I never knew, you could be homesick for people too.
I will keep you in my thoughts every single day, my sweet little angel. Please take care of yourself, eat good and do good.
Study!!! You can't be all looks and no brains when you become famous ;)
Your friend Ali will visit you as much as he can.
I'll go to the graveyard every month, as I promised.P.s Don't forget me when you make it in the big city!"

I moved back to Seoul to live with mrs. Jung in her tiny apartment which was one street above Wheein's parents house.
The apartment had a living room with kitchen, a bathroom, bedroom and a small pantry. Before I left there was an agreement between the Jung family and my grandma, so she settled with giving the Jung family 50 000 000 ₩ to support paying my school and living costs.
Halmoni Jung didn't plan to spend it all right away on an apartment for me. She wanted me to get as much money as possible when I turn 19.
She used some money to send me to a Performance arts school, instead of a regular public school. It wasn't the expensive and luxurious one Wheein was going to, but it was an upgrade for me.
She prepared a small room for me which used to be a pantry. Before I came she bought a bed, a closet and a table so I would have a place to study. There was not much room for my other belongings but I didn't have much anyway so it was fine. It was more than fine, it was perfect!
When I left the orphanage I only had one bag of clothes anyway.
Mrs. Jung bought me a laptop and some new clothes too.I promised her I would pay her back eventually for everything her family did for me. I just had to turn 19 so I could get the money my parents left for me.
Six months later I was in my routine.
I balanced my new high school, a part time job in a coffee shop, dance practices and auditions with Wheein.
School was actually going pretty well. I had good grades. I was a bit slow with the dances because I didn't practice for years. I was rusty but I was getting better.
The only thing I hated were those dumb yellow uniforms. Other than that it was pretty good. I didn't have much time to hang out with the other students after school since I was always going straight to the coffee shop to work.
My boss was a kind middle aged man who was a friend of the belated mr. Jung. He was okay with me working there for just a few hours a day, since I was still a student. I would work full time shifts on the weekend though. My coworkers were also students, mostly girls, who knew each other for a long time. So once again, I felt like an outcast.
Even though I had a monthly allowance I wanted to earn some pocket money so I would not be a big burden to mrs. Jung asking her for cash every now and then.

Saturday
Today was the second time Wheein got accepted by an entertainment company and I wasn't. They basically told me I was too ugly to be an Idol.
Wheein was the smartest girl I've ever known. She had the voice of an angel and she was the kind of girl that lights up the room when she enters. The brightest and biggest smile, etheral beauty, white soft skin, kindest brown eyes and crazy hair colors.
Don't get me wrong, I was ecstatic that she was accepted by those companies but at the same time I felt like a complete flunk.
-
I cried for some time but had to go to work so I calmed myself, put on my uniform and was about to exit the apartment.
Wheein then told me she rejected both companies and said she would only accept the one where we both get in."Wheein-ah, please don't do that. Please chase your dreams. Don't wait for me, we both know it will take time. Or maybe it will never happen for me..."
"Please shut up Kate, I don't know anyone like you. So what if you don't fit in with their standards of beauty? The standards are fucking crazy anyway!"
Before I left to work, I looked myself in the mirror. They were right. I am ugly. I wear braces. Noone is gonna hire me with braces. I have bigger hips and darker skin than most Koreans.
"Damn my genes," I looked up to a picture of my parents,
"Mijanhae eomma, my angel. I take it back."
I kissed the photo and went out.-
As soon as I entered the coffee shop, the drama began.
One of the girls working there pointed a finger at me and accused me of taking 10 000 won from the cash register. I denied the whole thing but I was working there the shortest so it was only logical they would blame it on me."Check the camera footage, I never went near the cash register. I only bust tables, remember?" I yelled at her.
The owner sent home and told me that I'm not needed there for the rest of the day.
Great!
I am jobless, talentless, hopeless.
