If I Fall In Love

Chapter Six

Marley took an absence from Uni for over a month to let her wounds heal. She stayed home and cleaned whilst Brian would be out at work. During the first week of her absence, Izzie would blow up her phone, but with every passing day, the texts began to disappear.

Marley had opted to use a 'family emergency' as an excuse for her teachers to send the work online so she wasn't missing out. Brian would sleep till afternoon and then leave the house, interrupting Marleys sleep in the middle of the night to satisfy his deepest desires.

By the time the third week occurred, she felt like a broken recordset to repeat the same day constantly. Some days she felt so sick and tired where she could barely walk or support herself. She continued through her days and continued to stand through the storm. However, there was a knock at the door. Marley raised a brow seeing as no one ever visited the two, not even her family. She had been forced to cut ties with them the moment she began living under his roof, but oh how she missed her mother.

"Mar... I see your car, I know you're home" Marley heard Izzie's voice on the other side.

Marley quickly fixed up her appearance and went to answer the door.

"Hey girl... you've disappeared for a while. I just wanted to make sure everything is okay"

'Hey Izzy... How are you doing?"

"I asked you first... aren't you going to invite me in?"

"Iz I was just going to take a nap" Marley innocently smiled trying to brush her off. Marley narrowed her eyes and nodded, letting herself into the house and boiling the kettle.

"Of course your tired, I can see the bags under your eyes. But sit down, I'm making a cup of tea and just talk to me okay" Izzy ordered Marley to sit at the dining table whilst she was in the kitchen. Izzy walked over a few minutes later with two mugs of tea.

"So you're pregnant" Izzy blurted as she sat down which made Marley's eyes go wide.

"Why do you think that?"

"First of all, we're both nurses and I'm sure sensing a pregnancy is like a sixth sense. Also, your showing obvious symptoms"

"There's no way. I'm on the pill. I've been on the pill for years. There's no way" Marley denied it with all her heart. Izzie excused herself and walked out the front door, returning fifteen minutes later with a pack of pregnancy tests.

"Take one, I'll be here for it okay. You're not alone" Izzie reached over and held Marleys hand who continued to dismiss the possibility that she could be pregnant.

Twenty minutes later, Marley sat in disbelief as she stared at the test.

"This cannot be happening" she let a few tears fall and land on her lap.

"Sis have you done it yet ? Are you okay? I'm coming in now" Izzy screamed from the other side before walking inside.

"Oh... are we happy or sad" Iz sat on the ground beside Marley.

"We're happy" She began crying into Izzys arm.

Izzy stayed over for a few more hours before leaving to tend to other things. Not long after, Marley heard the front door open followed by heavy footsteps entering the dinning room.

"Marley!" He yelled from the dinning table. Marley fixed up his plate and entered the dinning room.  She gave a faint smile placing it in front of him.

Oh the anticipation. Marley couldn't predict how he would feel but she hoped he would be as happy as she would.

"What's up?" Brian noticed the unsettling expression on Marleys face as she hid something behind her back.

"Umm..." she whimpered placing the positive pregnancy test in front of him.

"Aren't you on the pill" he shook his head throwing the test at the wall as Marley flinched

"Oh... I'm sorry Babe" she motioned to grab the broom and sweep up the pieces of the test. Next came his plate that shattered into small pieces beside her.

"Marleys there's a reason why you were taking the pill. Now is not the time to have kid. Is this kid even mine? Have you been sleeping around" Brian stared at Marley with such disgust as tears strained down her eyes. Brian walked straight past her and out the door with his keys.

Marley sat in silence sweeping up the mess and then mopping up afterwards. She placed a hand over her stomach and sensed the small being inside her. A child. Her child.

"We can do this together bubba" she smiled walking outside to the deck to watch the stars.

Her phone buzzed, a message from Izzy.

"Did you tell Brian ? How'd he take the news??"

She debated on answering before sending a reply,

"Amazing. He's so happy"

Marley locked her phone and stared at the stars. How pretty the night sky could be if people just sat still and enjoyed it, the view was indeed marvellous.

"So excited for you chicks, Aunty Izzy is counting down the days x"

Marley stared at her phone and smiled, God had blessed her with such a genuine friend. She hadn't had many of those since she started dating Brian.

Oh when she started dating Brian. How youthful and beautiful she was, now he just sucked the life straight out of her. Brian took from her cup until it was empty and paid no mind to fill her up again. She was indeed hollow on the inside with no means to repair herself.

But things were different now. Soon two will become three and her child would depend on her more than Brian would. She was definitely bringing a child into this world of chaos and had every reason to shelter her child from temptation.
