TWENTY THREE

Lucas Kevinski

"So, you're telling that your night with Matt was better than prom?"

"Yeah, very romantic though" I assured her

"I have to admit, the night was boring without you" she shrugged

"Of course, it was" I laughed

"We better get to the hall, Mrs Omar's about to hand out the graduation gowns" said Larsa and we went to the hallway. When we arrived, a few of my classmates was already there, already received their gowns. Matt was nowhere to be found, Jackson had to carry his gown around.

"When the hell is Matt?" asked Jackson

"I don't know, I thought he was with you" After having that little argument, seeking Matt, the hallway started filling up with our parents, other students and teachers. I got ready backstage, apparently I have to perform with a guitar. Perfect. I got called up on stage. Spotlight.

"Hi" I smiled, walked up on stage and sat on the chair in the middle of the stage. "For those who's wondering what I'll be singing, it's My Song by H.E.R" I scoffed and received few chuckles from the crowd.

I started singing...

After I had sung the song, the audience was silent, but a few seconds later, everyone started yelling, clapping, cheering and howling like wolves. I enjoyed the attention but it soon got awkward. Everyone looking at me and I bet one person in that crown saw something on me that's out of place. So, I made my way off the stage.

"After that amazing performance, let's give a hand to our school's football and basketball captain, Matthew Banks" announced our principal and Matt ran up on stage, carrying a tablet and his graduation cap in his hands.

"Good morning family, friends, students and teachers. You all probably know me as Matthew Matt Banks, the best football player, yeah you heard that right Jackson, the jock, the one guy who gets everything he wants" Matt started "Students of Knight High, that is not me. So let me reintroduce myself"

"Hi, I'm Matthew Banks, an addict. Was an addict" he continued and everyone gasped in shock. "I've was addicted for three years straight. This year, specifically, a lot has happened to me. During my relationship with Lucas Kevinski, I used drugs in secret. Then we broke up. During that break up, I turned silent and it came to my mind that at some point you make a choice, about who you are and what you want.

His speech caught a lot of ears, focus and attention. Some was still super stunt that the Matthew Banks used drugs. Soon his inspiration speech ended with "Look I'm not denying you choose to use drugs, but I'm just gonna say in the true words of my boyfriend 'That shit's bad for you'. This speech was not written to make young adults of the dangers of drugs. I wrote this speech so people can know me, the true me and what I've been dealing with for three years. Thank you"

Jackson jumped up applauding. Then Larsa and I. The everyone followed. After receiving our graduation certificates, we gathered in the front portal for champagne and appitizer but we only stayed for ten minutes, then everyone went to Matt's house where we sat around a gas fire, eating cheeseburger, fries and Coke, let's just say the chef did not play games in the kitchen. Soon everyone jumped into the pool in their bathing suits. While swimming, I could feel Matt's arms wrapping around me and lift me out of water, with our lips touching and his hands on my butt.
