"So you're really going then?" he asked, drying his face which he had washed a few minutes ago.
I looked at myself one last time in the mirror after fixing my hair,
"Yes, I am" I replied firmly, turning to face him. His arms were crossed over his chest and he did not look very pleased.
"I really don't see the point Evelyn, it's a big waste of time"
"Well I'm sorry if your definition of 'a waste of time' is not the same as mine. I intend to do something with my life" I said, frustrated by his unsupportive behaviour. What happened to the old Draco, the one who supported all of my decisions? He was a completely new person. But I had to be there for him, he too had faced a big loss.
I walked over to him, placing my arms around his neck, and made him look down at me.
"I love you, please let me do this?" I asked, tilting my head to the side. He closed his eyes and sighed loudly.
"Fine, just, don't get a job in one of those old, boring shops" he said, walking out of my grip.
"Okay, I won't" I laughed, slinging my bag across my shoulder. I went downstairs, Draco following me. Grandpa was already in the kitchen, sitting on a chair and sipping from a cup of tea.
"Good morning Grandpa" I tried to say cheerily.
He didn't respond but shook his head a little in acknowledgement. He needed time, he wasn't as quick as recovering from the unfortunate events as I was.
I poured myself and Draco a bowl of cereal and took it to the table. We ate in silence, lost in our thoughts. I was a bit nervous about the whole ordeal, I wasn't very qualified for any good jobs which is why I decided to start out at Diagon Alley. I was sure there would be many shopkeepers there who were looking for employees.
"Do you want to come with me?" I asked, trying to break the thick air of silence.
"I have some work" said Draco, not making eye contact with me. He always talked about having 'work', I just didn't know what it was. He was very secretive about it.
Once we were done eating breakfast, Draco disapparated to wherever it was he had work. I made sure that my granddad was doing alright before disapparating to Diagon Alley.
.
I stood in front of the large notice board, my hands on my hips as I read each of the wanted posters.
WANTED: Cashier at Madame Malkins.
WANTED: Sales Assistant at Weasleys Wizard Wheezes
WANTED: Cleaner at Florean Fortescue's
These were the only jobs available, I was surprised there weren't any more. I groaned in disbelief, these jobs didn't even pay very well. I was definitely not going to work at Florean Fortescue's, the little children always made such a mess there and I wasn't planning on cleaning up for them.
That left only two options. I knew Madame Malkins was the store that sold all the robes you may ever need but I wasn't aware of the Weasley one. Was it owned by the same Weasleys who were in Hogwarts? The redheaded ones? None of the Weasleys had been in my year so I didn't know them too well.
I decided to go to Madame Malkins first. When I got there, Madame Malkin was sitting on a chair, using her wand to snip pieces of fabric.
"Hello, I'm here for the job opening" I smiled sweetly, recalling whatever I knew about charming your boss.
Her eyes flickered over me distastefully.
"Did you know that you're wearing two different socks Ms...."
