"Where are you going?"
"To the shooting range," I replied, slipping on my gloves as I headed for the door. Without waiting for a response, I strode out, my destination clear in my mind.
Upon my arrival at the shooting range, the guard stood up to greet me. I acknowledged him with a nod and continued on my way. Once inside, I made a beeline for the last cubicle, where the firearm I was to use awaited. I swiftly assembled it, inserted the magazine, and began to fire.As the last bullet left the chamber, my fingers instinctively reached for the magazine release. The empty magazine clattered to the floor, quickly replaced by a fresh one. I continued to fire, my focus solely on the targets ahead. Suddenly, I felt a presence approaching. Swiftly, I sidestepped to the left, narrowly avoiding a bullet that whizzed past me to hit my target.
"Do you plan on killing me, Caeden?" I asked, my voice calm yet stern, as I turned to face the newcomer.
"Well, I didn't kill you, did I? Besides, I knew you'd dodge it," he retorted, disregarding my tone.Despite my anger at his recklessness, I waited for him to approach. When he was within reach, I stomped on his foot and punched him in the face.
"Ouch! What was that for?" He yelped, clutching his face.
"Serves you right," I muttered, pressing a button to bring my target closer.
"Nice, all your shots hit the center!" Caeden exclaimed.
"I nearly missed the last one," I admitted.
"Really? It still hit the center!" He sounded genuinely puzzled.
"The bullet's trajectory changed because of your shot," I explained, my annoyance clear in my voice.
"Why are you here, anyway?" I asked, changing the subject.
"The higher-ups summoned us."
"Your father will be there, won't he?"
"He is the chairman, not my father. Remember the rule," I reminded him.
"Right," he responded sarcastically. "But he's still your father."
"I know. Let's not waste any more time and head to Building 1."
We reached Building 1 after a few minutes of walking. Upon entering, we headed straight for the elevator. After verifying our identities, we were granted access to a secret meeting room known only to Class S agents and above.
Once seated, the chairman, my father, tossed me a device.
"Study the information in this device. You'll be deployed on a mission in three days," he instructed.
"Wait, what do you mean by 'you'?" Caeden asked, confusion clear in his voice.
"This is a solo mission, and I've assigned Cylin to it," the chairman explained.
"But..." Caeden began, but a look from me silenced him. After a respectful bow to the chairman, we left the meeting room.
Once outside, I turned to Caeden. "You know he could have punished you for questioning his decision," I warned him. He remained silent, head bowed.
After parting ways with Caeden, I headed to the agents' quarters. Upon entering my room, I sat down and began to study the device the chairman had given me.
