chapter seven

Friday...

Sophie's POV

My mom had been on a case in Arizona for three days. I had gotten used to Will being the only parent in the house. Henry and I would play soccer outside and still go to the BAU during the day. Will would drop us off and pick us up. 

Friday morning I got up a little extra early. I showered and put on leggings and one of Will's police hoodies. Over these last few days after Henry has gone to bed I've really gotten to open up to Will. I still get nervous sometimes and have panic attacks. I've had a few nightmares about still being hostage but my mom always answers the phone when I call.

I ate breakfast and got in the car with Will and Henry. I was excited because Jack and I planned to have a really fun day.

We got there and Will had to speed off to work so I went to check in Henry to the kid thing. I then walked up to the BAU floor and it was empty as it should be because they were still on a case. Jack was already there sitting in his dads office. His aunt dropped him off earlier.

I went to Aunt Penelope's office to say hi to her first before going to see Jack. He had set up the movie screen and had a box of snacks and candy.

"I'm sorry I ghosted you. I hope I can make it up with this."

I smiled and gave him a hug.

The rest of the day we watched movies and I got a call from my mom.

JJ: Hey Soph. Should be back in a few hours. I miss you and your little brother.

Me: Hi. We miss you too. Currently watching a movie with Jack.

JJ: Oooo, Jackkkk.

Me: Mom stopppp. I'll talk to you at home. 

JJ: Ok, be there around three.

We said bye and Jack decided to put on Hairspray. I loved that movie when I was little and we spent the entire time singing to the song. I was really starting to like Jack. It was too soon... I just got home.... I couldn't.  

The elevator opened to show six exhausted team members carrying their go bags. My mom looked drained and ready to go home. 

Jack and I cleaned up and left and I hugged my mom.

"There's my peanut. Oh how I missed you. Ready to go?" 

"Yeah, let me just say bye."

I walked over to Jack and gave him a hug. 

"Bye Jack. See you tomorrow for soccer."

"Bye Soph. I'll be over at 3."

I said bye to the rest of my aunts and uncles and walked out of the office with my mom. We picked up Henry and got in the car.

"Sooooo, Jackkkk." My mom said about three minutes into the car ride.

"I know I told you that we were just friends but I thinkI kinda like him mom"

"AW my baby girl has a crush!"

"Shhhh don't be so loud. Child in the car that repeats everything."

She laughed and nodded and we talked about her case the rest of the way home. Will was already there when we got there because he left work early.

He greeted us on the front porch and Henry ran and jumped on him while I waited for my mom. Henry then ran inside and I hugged Will and went upstairs to change and grab a blanket. 

By the time I was downstairs, my mom had also changed and Henry was sitting by the coffee table playing with his cars. Will was cooking pasta for lunch and my mom was drinking coffee. I sat next to her on the barstools.

"This is my sixth cup of coffee today." She said while laughing.

"Mom that is not healthy." I said while pulling her cup away.

"Hey give me that." She said pulling it back.

"I tried Soph, trust me" Will said and we all laughed. 

After lunch we decided to play Candyland and then the parentals went to their room and Henry went to his to play. I was sitting on the couch alone and I got a text from Jack.

"Look outside."

I got up and opened the front door to see Jack holding an ice cream cone and Hotch in the car waving. My mom ran down stairs to make sure I was ok and she saw who it was and started taking pictures.

I hugged him and said thank you and went to go eat it.

A little later, around bed time, when I was in my room watching TV and drawing, my mom came in and sat on the bed next to me.

"Ooo that one looks nice."

"Thanks, it's going to be a picture of what I consider our perfectly imperfect house."

"That is adorable. So... Will told me that you were getting more and more comfortable with him."

"Yeah, not sure if it was too soon. the Bureau therapist said that it might take up to a year or maybe never to get used to him. It's been two weeks and I love him just like I love you or Henry."

My mom started to tear up. All she ever wanted was for her daughter to have a father figure and to live in a stable home.

"Aw mom don't cry."

"Eight years Sophie. Do you know what that does to a mother? I'm so glad you feel safe around Will. I'm so glad Henry has someone so smart and amazing to look up to and you know that." 

"I'm home now mommy. And yes, I love Will. He's the best."

"Well, I think you should tell him that. I think he would really want to hear it."

Will's POV

It was getting late so I went into Sophie's room to check on JJ.

I opened the door to see Sophie and JJ watching a movie on her bed.

"I was just heading to bed." JJ said while getting up and kissing Soph's forehead.

"Goodnight peanut. I love you so much."

"Goodnight mom. I love you more."

While JJ walked out and stood at the door way I turned back before turning off her lights.

"Goodnight honey. Get some rest. It's late."

"Goodnight Will." She said and I was about to close the door before I heard a quiet

"I love you"

I quickly opened the door and turned around 

"I love you too sweetie. Now, get some sleep. You need energy for soccer tomorrow."

I turned off her lights and closed the door before going to lay next to JJ.

"Did she tell you?"

"Yes, of course. I'm her mama. She really loves you Will."

"I love her too."
