Fall Activities
James Phelps x Reader
First person p.o.v - Reader
I shoved my hands deep into my cardigan pockets as I tapped my boots impatiently. James and I had planned to visit our local apple orchard, but Oliver had given him an angry call about James not sending in the intro video for their podcast. Turns out that James had deleted it instead of sending it over to him. I sometimes wonder how he could be so clumsy but- he is so easy to forgive.
James and Oliver were just finishing up the intro to their podcast as I waited by the door. I couldn't help but to be impatient. Going to the orchard was one of my favorite fall activities. I heard a few footsteps coming from the hall that grabbed my attention. When I looked over, I saw a sheepish James peeking around the corner. I laughed at him a little causing his face to light up a little.
"I'm sorry for the delay. Really.." He walked over to me and looked down at me with guilty eyes. I reached up and gently cupped his face, his beard tickling my hands, as he instinctively wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me closer to him. "It's okay James. You don't have to apologize." He gave me a full bright smile showing off his pearly whites. I chuckled at his sudden giddiness and tucked a few pieces of his long fluffy hair behind his ear.
He looked at me lovingly before he leaned down and pecked my forehead. He reached over and grabbed for his keys and showing them to me. "Let's get a move on then. Don't want to be later than we already are." He jingled his keys at me making chuckle. I patted his cheek lightly before letting go of him and stepping over to the door, but James was quick to reach in front of me to open the door for me. "Oh such a gentleman." I teased making him roll his eyes.
We settled into his car shortly after listening to any tunes that would pop up on the radio. Every now and then the radio would play a song I knew and I'd turn up the volume, only to have it turned down a minute later because he didn't really like pop music all that much. After a twenty minute drive of us playfully fighting over the volume, we arrived to the apple orchard.
We found easy parking and quickly hopped out of the car. James straightened up his favorite jacket while walking around his car to meet up with me. "I swear you love that jacket more than me sometimes." I teased him poking his chest. He looked down to meet my eyes and laughed at me.
"Let's go pick some apples." He reached for my hand and intertwined his fingers with min. I smiled warmly down at out hands before looking back up at him and gave him a nod. We walked up to the little farmers market that was in charge of it all and asked for a few baskets to put our apples in. James paid for the apples in advance and lead me out to the field of apple trees as far as the eye could see.
A few other couples and families littered the place trying to get first pick of all the good apples before others could get to them. James lead me over to the first tree and began to pic a few good ones he could reach. I was stuck picking from low branches since I was short in stature. I then saw a beautiful red and green apple up on a higher branch than the ones I was picking from. I looked over at James, who was examining an apple for any imperfections, and debated whether I should ask him for help or not.
I kept looking in between James and the apple until I decided it was low enough for me to reach. I reached up trying to grab the apple but it was barely out of reach. I huff a bit before standing on my tippy toes to try and grab the apple once more. I could feel the tips of my fingers graze the bottom of the apple giving me slight hope. I could hear James chuckle from beside me making me feel rather flustered. I sighed and stood flat on my feet once more shooting james a pout.
"Oh come on you almost had it." He teased, walking up behind me.
"I'm too short." I whined resting my head to his chest.
"Come on don't give up. Here, let me help." He smiled and set his basket of apples on the ground. I looked over at him quizzically trying to figure out what he was up to this time. "Are you ready?"
"Ready for what?" Before I could get my answer, James bent down, wrapping is arms around my thighs tightly and lifted me up to the branch. I squeaked a bit at suddenly being airborne. I turned and looked down who was looking back up at me with his chin on my butt. I shook my head at him, trying to hide my smile from him. I carefully leaned forward and picked the apple. I mentally celebrated this triumph as James carefully lowered me down.
"Thank you James." I stood on my tip toes once more and placed peck on his jaw. His whiskers made my face itch which he was well aware of and always laughed when I complained. A beard did suit him well but sometimes it was hard to kiss.
We went on to pick apples for almost up to an hour until we felt burnt out and we couldn't fit any more apples into the baskets. James took ahold of both of the baskets and carried them back to the car because I will 'hurt myself trying to prove that I am strong'. There wan't much protest. We settled back into the car and set the baskets at my feet. As he was starting up the car, I was quick to search for that perfect apple James had helped me grab.
Luckily, it wasn't too buried, so it was easy to find it and start snacking on it. James looked away from to the road over to me and smiled a little before looking back. "Already eating them?"
"What? They're good!" I protested with my mouth full of apple. He chuckled a little bit more as his expression softened. He took a hand away from the wheel and placed it on my thigh. "I had fun with you today." He rolled his thumb over my thigh as he spoke sending butterflies throughout my body.
"Yeah... I almost don't want it to end." I muttered. He gave my thigh a comforting squeeze before letting go and focusing on the road again.
