"Yes. Just before my walk Efren brought me a late lunch. I always forget to eat during the day."
"Well labor can sometimes make people throw up. If you start to feel sick let me know I have something to help that. But only water now." I nod.
"Looks like we get to meet her sooner than we planned." Efren says after the healer leaves.
"Yes. But why is this happening? It's too early."
"I know your worried something is wrong but we don't know that. Maybe she's just tired of her small space and wants out." I laughed.
"Maybe. You know I like my space. It's why I walk the walls." he keeps me company as the healer comes and goes. His mother comes and visits then as it gets out I'm in labor nobility sends notes, a few come to the castle to be here when my daughter is born. I was confident that it was a girl. I just knew it was.
"Efren, the pain's not going away anymore." I tell him as I try to adjust my position again. The healer stood from his chair and came over.
"Well usually that means it's time." he says and checks.
"Yes. You are ready. She's in a hurry I think. It's not been more than a few hours." I moaned and dropped back.
"I wasn't ready for this yet. I had two more months to think about this and get myself ready for this part." I say. Efren kisses me forehead.
"It'll be alright. Hold tight to me." I smiled then groaned.
It was pain, and blood, pressure that finally delivered me a squalling little girl.
"Your daughter is perfect my Queen." while his helper got her washed and dressed for us the healer helped Efren get me cleaned up in on fresh sheets. Then I was handed my daughter.
"She's so small is it alright?"
"Yes. She's strong. Her lungs are clear as you heard, her heart beat is strong. I think she was just ready too soon."
"First babies are always unique. Have you a name for her for the official records." I looked at Efren.
"She'll be named for my mother. She will be Princess Aliana Rose.""Do you think it will be noticed that she is awfully big for only six months." Efren asks smiling as he blushes. I laughed. It had been seven months since I got pregnant but most were assuming I got pregnant after my wedding. I realized that was why everyone was concerned and here to check on me.
"Will you have it announced?" he nodded.
"I'll be back." he kissed me and left. My little girl was already falling asleep in my arms.
"My little girl you are so beautiful. I was not expecting so pretty. It must be that you take after your daddy. He'll be right back. You'll get to know him so well. He's a wonderful man. I love him more than anything. Well more than anything but you."
"Alright my queen. She needs to feed this first time. I'll show you how then I'll leave the three of you to settle. I'll come every day for a while to check on her. I'll be checking you as well for a few days. I want you to stay in bed for two days. After that you may get up as you feel like it. Alright?"
"Alright. She was early. Does that mean anything for future babies?"
"No. Each pregnancy will be on it's own. Will you be wanting to get pregnant again quickly?"
"No. I would like time between pregnancies."
"I have a tea that will help prevent pregnancy, nothing except abstinence will prevent it completely."
"I don't think abstinence will happen. I love my husband too much to let him alone too long." he laughs. He showed me how to feed her. Then he left me Alone. When Efren came back he was smiling.
"Everyone here gave the congratulations the bells will ring momentarily. They are glad to know that she is fine. It'll be announced through the city that she's arrived and her name."
"Thank you. Do you want to hold the daughter who you are working so hard for." he hurried over. As he lifted her I saw him start to tear up.
"No imagining really prepared me for this. Have you fed her?" I laughed.
"Already caring for her I see. Yes, she's been fed." I stopped talking as I yawned.
"Oh you need to sleep. It's been an ordeal. I'll have her right here while you both sleep." I lifted a hand and tugged him down to kiss him deeply.
"I love you Efren. Mother asking for your hand for me was the best thing to happen to me."
"Me as well. I love you Ramana." he kissed me and settled into a chair next to the bed. I fell asleep watching the man I loved, my husband, rock our daughter to sleep.
Thank you mama. I think as I drift off.
