"Madeline, are you ready to go to Diagon Alley to get things for school?" My aunt calls me down. "Almost." I tell her getting changed before heading down the stairs. Long story short I've been living with my Aunt Sophia since I was a baby. My mum, who was a muggle, died when I was baby and as for my dad I spend time with him whenever he's free. He's a Professor at Hogwarts so he's really never has time to spend with me. What I hear from my aunt, who is muggle born, him and my mum were an odd relationship from her point of view. She told me that my mom reminded him of someone he used to love in school. It's just once she got sick and left him he became even more reclusive than he was before. "Coming!" I call out running down the stairs so we can head to Diagon Alley. "Oh hello, Remus." I smile seeing him stand next to my Aunt. "Remus wanted to tag alone while we go shopping till your uncle gets back from work." She smiles eyeing him from behind. Even though she was married she still had a huge crush on him.

"You excited?" Remus asks me as we walk the streets. "Yeah, I mean I get to see dad more..." I say fading out. "But what?" He nudges me. "What if I don't get sorted into the house I want?" I stop walking to look up at him. "Well what house do you want?" He bends down to my height. "I hear how everyone talks about Slytherin being the bad house and everyone else is good especially Gryffindor." I start to mess with my fingers. "Your father was in Slytherin." He says but can't think of anything else to say. "You were in Gryffindor, my aunt Sophia was too, uncle Liam was a Ravenclaw, and Annie is a Hufflepuff." I bring them up and he sighs, "Your house doesn't determine how you are." I just look at him, "Yes it does. You get sorted into the house that you fit into." I cross my arms.

"Madeline, if you do get sorted into Slytherin it doesn't mean you're a bad person or that you're going to end up bad. Slytherins are ambition, determination, shrewdness, and resourcefulness. Those are great traits to have too. Ambition will get you anywhere you want to be. Determination is the one thing that will let you keep going even when you fail. Not to mention, Slytherin traits overlap with the other Houses. Being shrewd is apparently being smart, intelligent, clever, witty, etc. Isn't that what Ravenclaw stands for? Slytherins will not stop until they get what they want. They will just keep going. At this point you might be a little confused because being a hard worker is a Hufflepuff trait. Another mainly Hufflepuff trait, loyalty. Slytherins can be extremely loyal if they want to be. They can respect people and never leave their side. They are also are just as rebellious and daring as Gryffindors. Competitive too." He explains to me.

"Why are you talking like you like Slytherin's when you don't? It's like you're standing up for them?" He sighs, "I'm telling you all of this because I want you to know that you aren't bad if you get sorted into Slytherin." He stands up patting my back. "Thanks for making me feel slightly better... Aunt Sophia would have said a sentence then dropped it." He laughs, "I know, now let's go find her with Annie." He says as we go shopping.

"Maddy!" I hear the twins call my name as we leave getting my wand. "Fred, George." I smile at them and they try to trick me saying I got them wrong, "I'm not dumb boys, I know the difference between you two." They roll their eyes giving me a hug. I was pretty close with the Weasley family because of my aunt being very good friends with Molly. "You nervous?" Ron walks up to me as his mom talks to my aunt. "Yeah, you?" He nods his head fast. "I hope I get Gryffindor and not Slytherin." I just smile, "Ron, you're whole family has been. I'm sure you will too." He smiles, "What do you want?" I try not to answer him turning to talk to his mom about something random. "If you don't mind, Madeline, Molly is going to take you to the train tomorrow is that okay?" My aunt asks me. "That's okay." I smile and Ron turns me around. "You're nervous about the sorting hat aren't you?" I let out a sigh, "Ron, my father was in Slytherin so there's a chance I could too. I'm just scared that if I do... You won't want to talk to me anymore." He gives me a hug, "I still would because I know who you are."
