Umbridge was making school worst as it could ever be. Everyday new rules were added to the wall making it impossible to do anything fun. In dads class he glowers from the front of his classroom, his eyes tracking back and forth as Umbridge walks around. "You applied first for the Defense Against the Dark Arts Post, is that correct?" Umbridge has her clipboard in hand, serenely paces the back of the room. "Yes." Dad says like he always speaks. "But you were unsuccessful...?" I huff from my table with the Slytherin's. "Obviously." He says as she starts to leave. Ron and Harry share a covert smile and Snape cuffs Ron on the head.
When Professor Trelawney was teaching us, She walks into a table, knocking a thick book to the floor. As she bends to retrieve it Umbridge comes into the room. "Oh! What are you doing here?" She jumps up. "Oh don't mind me, dear... You see--Professor Trelawney, isn't it?--in addition to my teaching duties, the Ministry has asked me to act as an informal observer here at Hogwarts... Cornelius' eyes and ears, as it were... Nothing whatsoever to worry about of course. Please, do go on. I'm just a fly on the wall." Umbridge smiles and I give her a dirty look. Trelawney hesitates then finally turns back to the class, "Yes. Well--," Unbridge cuts in again, "Just one question dear. You've been in this post how long exactly?" I look up shaking my head. "Nearly sixteen years." Professor Trelawney answers her. "Quite a period...And it was Dumbledore who appointed you?" She asks her more. "He did." She then motions if it's okay for her to teach now and Umbridge nods her head. As Trelawney was going to speak she cuts her off, "Just one more thing. If it isn't too much bother, would you please... predict something for me?" Trelawney freezes, "Sorry."
"Predict something. Surely you're not surprised I ask. You would have foreseen it--no?" Unbridge fakes a smiles. "Come now, one teensy little prophecy...No? Pity." Umbridge raises her pen to make a note and Trelawney panics. "I...I think I do see something... something dark... You are in grave danger!" Umbridge raises a bland eyebrow...and makes a note leaving. As we leave class I walk up to Ron and Harry, "I've never wanted to use an unforgivable curse on someone so bad." They both look at me. "Is it wrong if I say I agree with you?" Ron asks and Harry replies with no.
Later in the day students gather in the courtyard to see Professor Trelawney with her luggage. "She can't do that." I say walking up next to Neville seeing Trelawney start to cry making me tear up. "S-Sixteen years I've lived and taught here. H- Hogwarts is m-my h-home. You c-can't do this." She cries to Umbridge. "Actually, I can." She holds up a decree. Professor McGonagall now hurries to Trelawney, hands her a large handkerchief. Trelawney blows her nose as McGonagall looks daggers at Umbridge.
With a crack the oaken front doors swing wide revealing Dumbledore. All eyes on him, he approaches, "Professor McGonagall...might I ask you to escort Sybill back inside?" Dumbledore nods to Professor McGonagall, who takes Trelawney's trembling arm, guiding her back inside. "Dumbledore. May I remind you that under the terms of Educational Decree Number Twenty-three, as enacted by the Minister." Dumbledore cuts in. "You have the right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to banish them from the grounds. That power remains with the Headmaster." Umbridge pauses, "For now." He turns back around, "I trust you all have studying to do?" We all quickly break off leaving. "She's getting out of hand." I look over at Hermione who gives me a head nod, "Completely agree."
